I have an Acer 5742 and a GTX 970 connected via an EXP GDC PCIe cable.  The computer switches on fine when the power supply to the graphics card is off or the cable is not connected to the HDMI port, but when the graphics card is switched on the laptop's power suddenly cuts out within the first few seconds of booting and repeatedly tries to start up again with the same result (it switches on, seems to be loading something and then the power cuts out suddenly).

I have tried starting up the laptop first and then switching on the graphics card.  In this case the laptop starts up normally and remains stable but the graphics card is not shown in device manager.  I've also tried changing the PSU and delay settings on the EXP GDC, but this makes no difference.

If anyone has any other ideas that i could try, please let me know.
