Hardware:

  • Dell Latitude E6520
    • CPU: i7-2620M
    • iGPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000
    • dGPU: Nvidia NVS 4200M
  • eGPU: Radeon R7 250
  • Connecting with EXP GDC

Configuration:

Currently the laptop lid is shut, my primary display is set as the NVS 4200M display, and my secondary display is the R7 250.

Ideally, I would want the laptop shut, to run two displays from the R7 250, and none from the NVS 4200M

Issue:

I have successfully connected my Radeon R7 250 to my laptop and am able to use the outputs on the eGPU. I am, however, running into two issues.

  1. If I set the eGPU display as my primary display and restart the computer, it shows the OS boot up on the dGPU display and then everything goes black when it would have shown the login screen on the eGPU display.
    1. I am only able to login if I use the dGPU display or the laptops screen as my primary display.
  2. When I launch a full screen program the laptop freezes.

Thanks,

Stephen

Embarrassingly, my issue was just my power supply being too weak. It being the problem had crossed my mind, but I was expecting the system to blue screen if the eGPU drew too much power and not just freeze.
