Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567 EGPU Setup with RX Vega 56 and PCE164P-N03

Hi, I've made an EGPU setup with my Inspiron using its SSD M.2 port. As instructed by Nando when using the PCE164P-N03, I have jumpered the PSU and everything works fine (the GPU fan turns on when connected to the laptop etc.). The only problem I'm encountering is detection, my laptop does not detect the eGPU. I have enabled hotplugging as well (as given in Hunew's guide for the same model). I'd appreciate some help guys!

Hi,

Maybe this is the wrong place but i have been struggling with updating drivers past the 388.13 driver for a looooong time now, and when i finally manage to install a newer driver (after DDU etc.) i get the code 43 message everytime.
Actually it hasnt bothered me since the 388.13 driver works fine for me, but now some games are requesting an updated driver.

I have tried multiple solutions like removing the card, reinstalling windows, formatting, vbio update etc. And now i tried this script but it only says that its already registry patched, but still has code 43). I would be forever thankful if someone would give me a solution to this:)

My card is a gtx 1060 3gb. From my order list when i bought it says the dealer is Gainward.

Hi,
after reinstalling windows 10 in MBR partition scheme, buying and installing DIY setup 1.35, i've managed to solve for good error #12.
but at boot complete i get my RX 590 detected with error #43
if i hotplug it, error disappears but it remains unusable and not detected by AMD drivers

GPU-z shows it with 0mhz speed.

tried gen1 link (gen2 also works, gpu-z recognizes it)

here my system specs:
Lenovo t540p with i7, 16gb RAM, 240gb SSD, intel hd 4600, gt 730m, windows 10 pro MBR
exp gdc 8.5 + 12v DC + corsair vs350 + RX 590 8gb

i also tried disabling gt 730m from DIY setup but error 43 remains.

which next steps to follow?

Hello,

my configuration:

  • lenovo thinkpad t540p with 4th gen i7, 16gb RAM and 250gb SSD
  • dgpu: nvidia GT730m
  • igpu: intel HD 4600
  • OS: windows 10 PRO build 18362 + MBR scheme
  • EXP GDC 8.5 + Express Card interface
  • Corsair vs350 + 12V DC
  • egpu: RX 590 8GB

what i've done:

  • achieved large memory with DSDT & Setup 1.35 (memory compression etc..)
  • tried both Gen1 and Gen2 speed links, both detected correctly on GPU-z,
  • disabled unnecessary things on BIOS like network boot etc..
  • set ATX PWR to ON in order to better troubleshoot, as adviced
  • set PTD delay to 15, seems inconsistent

problem(s):
1) screen remains black if power on with egpu attached. common issue on dgpu featured laptops. solved by hotplug
2) error 12 if i don't provide modified DSDT.aml file to DIY Setup at boot. GPUz detects the card with corret BIOS Version and Memory clock / Default clock.
3) error 43 if i solve error 12.  GPUz shows no BIOS version and zero MHZ on all frequency fields. Solves by hotplugging card with windows already loaded: error disappears but GPUz still shows wrong values and AMD driver won't recognize card.
If i disable and re-enable device from device manager, error 43 remains.
If i hotplug, obtaining error free on device manger, and then disable/enable device via software, error 43 raises again.

additional information:

  • before buying ATX and RX 590 i tried another external card, an old Sapphire X1550 with success. I needed large memory but then no Error 43. second screen worked as intended.
  • i'm available to do system reinstallation (for example trying windows 7) if needed.
  • while on DIY Setup 1.35 menu based, if i select "show state", even if egpu is kinda of recognized, atiflash shows "no adapter found". don't know if it helps.
  • next week i'll try same egpu configuation but with an older Thinkpad X220 without dgpu.

I'd really appreciate any help on this matter.
sadly i've found no other users with same machine/egpu/dgpu problems.

thank you in advance!

@albenex, you can email me RE: Setup 1.35 support. Here pls enable  Optimus in the BIOS so the iGPU+dGPU are active.  That lowers TOLUD so may eliminate the need for the DSDT override so long as the dGPU is disabled in Setup 1.35.  Then can delete the DSDT override, test, and if still problematic, use Setup 1.35 to hard allocate the eGPU to the 32-bit space previously occupied by the now disabled dGPU (hijaak).

Hi first sorry for the writing, I'm using a translator.

I have an EGPU EXP GDC Mini Pci-e V8.5c and a RX 590 that work perfectly on a Dell inspiron 14r 5421, but I bought a Lenovo g 400s with a better processor and I am wanting to put the EGPU on it. However I am having difficulties, I will leave 2 videos showing the difficulty I am having, accompanying tmb of some BIOS images.

* Note: I have launched whitlist and tmb advanced bios options!

In this video I simply plugged the egpu into the notebook and called it, as you can see in the video, it is in an infinite loop

------------------------------------------------------

link imagen

when this option is disabled, when connecting a notebook, the screen turns black and does not turn off. As you can see in the video below!

already in this video I deactivated an option in bios that I had read in some forum

in both tests I did using an external monitor

link img 2 - here is a photo of the advanced settings my bios has

Hello there,

Prequesites:
- i7 2920xm ( Intel HD3000 graphics )
- 16gb RAM
- dGpu is Quadro 1000m
- Nvidia GTX 960 4GB ( Gainward Phantom )
- EXP-GDC v8.5c Beast & Expresscard cable
- Win10 x64
- FSP Group Q-Dion QD500 500W

Problem:
Error 43 with no clock info in GPU-Z. I suppose it's PSU timing problem. I know it's somehow related to 3pos switcher on EXP-GDC but I need step-by-step guide to handle it. ( 2-pos PSU power switcher on exp-gdc is ON )

Hello everyone,

First of all, i'm french, don't be rude with my english 🙂

Im stuck on the "classic problem" error 43 let me show you some screenshot ans photo :

How my E-GPU is actually configured

My GPU

Alimentation (enough for my GPU apparently) :

Global view :

Patch aleady used :/

Z-GPU + error code :

I'm on it since 2 days, I buyed the EGPU setup and i'm waiting for the mail atm

I tested my "setup" with an old GPU (GTX460) and it worked, i changed nothing but GPU and it don't work anymore (no error previously, I just needed many restart), I have an inclued Nividia GPU (unistalled and disabled, already used DDU and re-install drivers from nvidia)

Help me please T T

Connection via mPCIE
Delay switches don't work
Hotplugging doesn't work, freezes laptop and gives a white screen.

It seems my problem is caused by Quadro dGPU, how did you handle this, are there any specific problems maybe?
Or, 43 is caused by gtx960, as I see this thread has a bit more messages from 960 owners

Here's my setup:
Toshiba L655
Core i3-350M
1gb ram (was 3)
EXP GDC 8.5c
mPCIE connector (no other way to connect to laptop)
Modded bios (setup defaults)
AMD RADEON HD5450

ATX generic PSU 450W (paper clip trick)

The laptop just randomly shuts off consistently at 25s, or when windows loads explorer.exe (right after boot screen).
I have tried all the switch positions.
I have the electric plugs at separate slots.
I have tried the aluminium foil trick.
All to no avail.

I have tried using windows, Linux, mac, all the same problem (same laptop).
Even staying on the bios setup screen for 25s shuts off the laptop !

When the WiFi card is connected, it is recognized.
When the EXP GDC is connected without a gpu, the problem occurs.

I really appreciate all the help ! Thanks in advance !

I dont know what exactly happens, but linux saying that bus with nvidia is unclaimed, and hw info says that bus is not implemented. So im running my exp-gdc on 15sec delay, and atx power on. I removed physically quadro 1000m to exclude collisions. One or two times there was a dark screen with diods working as usual, I hope it was the moment when image got to the egpu

UPD 1 : Black screen is when optimus is OFF, seems to b eworking. I'm waiting for the vga -> hdmi adapter due my monitor

UPD 2: I updated bios from A02 to A19, and there is no need on 15s delay

UPD 3: My egpu is dead lol

Solved by disabling dgpu and forcing igpu+egpu memory allocation via Setup 1.35.

however at full speed i suffer egpu disconnection.
had to limit my RX590 to "State 2" which is meh..
i think i'll go for another interface

Dear eGPU friends,

after selling my high end gaming rig last year I had to find out that the urge to play at least some minor games from time to time still exists in me. Therefore I decided to try an eGPU setup with my Thinkpad X240. However, I had to find out that it seems like I am the only idiot trying to combine the EXP GDC Beast with an X240 (at least I could not find any other person achieving what I am trying right now).

Regarding my specs from the ground up:

  • Lenovo Thinkpad X240 with i7 4600u / 8GB RAM / Intel HD 4400 / 120 GB SSD / Windows 10 Pro x64 / latest official bios installed
  • EXP GDC Beast v8.4 with NGFF Cable (purchased via amazon)
  • PSU is a Thermaltake TR2 450W (80plus bronze)
  • First card I tried was an ASUS Strix GTX 980 / after failing and thinking it might be the cards power requirements I purchased a PALIT GTX 650 ti for testing.
  • Severeal monitor cables, molex adapter (only for the GTX 980) and so on....

Everything arrived as planned and I setup all the parts with care. I have to say, I jumped into the adventure quite unprepared and soon had to find out that the Thinkpad would not boot with the GTX 980 attached due to whitelisted bios.
So I ordered a CH341a programmer + SOIC8 testclip, dumped my bios and had it modded by a dude from other forums. He removed the whitelist and unlocked advanced bios menus for me. Everything went fine and shortly after that I found myself in Windows and it recognized the GTX 980 as "microsoft basic display adapter". Installed nvidia drivers and after that everything went downhill.
The thinkpad wouldnt boot into windows anymore without bluescreens. If I left the external monitor disconnected from the GTX 980 it booted into windows, but froze after several seconds. In that short time I could see in device manager that the GTX 980 was recognized, but had some sort of error message.

After jumping back and forth and hours of different bios configurations I then purchased and installed nando4's DIY eGPU setup 1.35, tried different configs, but still I had the same freezes and bluescreens.

I assembled the thinkpad back to stock config (still with custom bios), cleaned nvidia drivers with DDU and put all eGPU stuff aside for two days to clear my mind because everything was driving me nuts at this points.

Then I decided to purchase a cheap GTX 650 ti (tested before) because I was thinking the GTX 980 might be drawing too much power or was incompatible with the PSU somehow.
When I connected all the parts, my thinkpad was not recognizing the eGPU at all (also not in setup 1.35). I had to load bios default several times and triple check all the wiring several times and somehow just before giving up, the GTX 650 ti was detected again (I have to add this occured with the GTX 980 before the 2 day break as well).

Long story short: GTX 650 ti detected (as basic display adapter), nvidia drivers (+physx only) installed, GTX 650 ti in device manager reported as fully functional
BUT

at this point I am stuck! When I leave the external monitor disconnected from the 650 ti, I can boot into Win10, but I cannot make any application utilize the eGPU (only Intel HD is being used) even if I force it with driver software. When I am in Windows and I connect the external monitor via HDMI or DVI (VGA not tested), the internal screen flickers a few times and nothing changes. I cannot produce any picture on the external screen.
When I try to boot into windows with eGPU hooked and the external display connected to it, I get bluescreens right before the welcome screen stating "VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE -nvlddmkm.sys". I tried different compaction settings in setup 1.35 and tried to change the PCI link speed to x1, but nothing helps.

So this is basically where I am stuck right now and I am just about to give up the whole project. Am I missing out on something or am I chasing a goal that cannot be reached due to some hardware limitations? Please help me out here. Any hint is appreciated.

I am using a R43SG egpu enclosure with 500W power suply and a GTX 1660 Ti. My laptop is an Acer Aspire A515-51G-58VH. Then:

  • If I buy the DIY setup 1.35, I will get more fps? (My BF1 in Ultra 2560x1080 60 - 70 fps)

  • If I disable the dGpu, the efford will increase?

  • Why my Egpu is running with 2 GT/s? (saw it in HWinfo...)

  • How to fix Dx12 crashes using the Egpu?

Hope that someone helps me!

I've been spending quite some time now getting my egpu to work. I'm using an HP probook 6570b with a gtx 760 connected via expresscard through a gdc beast v8.0. I got pretty much everything to work properly, except that the psu turns off when i'm trying to play games. I tried two psus so far, the first one was broken before i think but the problem was the same. The other one worked perfectly fine powering an entire pc and playing games before. Both psus are 350w, which i think should be enough for an egpu. Every time there is 3d stuff to render on screen my psu and gpu turn off, i tested this with multiple games that i could easily run with the same gpu in another pc. An interesting thing to note also is that whenever i turn off or unplug my egpu while it's running my laptop crashes, but when it turns off by itself the laptop just keeps running normally, but the external screen i have plugged into the gpu turns off.
hope someone can help 😀

I have a x240 ( i7 4600U, 8GB RAM, Whitelist Removed/Advanced Bios) and am trying the Beast with a gtx750 ti. It will not boot plugged in, and the internal keyboard and mouse stop working with hot-swap -it's not recognized then anyways. I was thinking about trying to figure out what pins could be taped like this guy: https://egpu.io/forums/builds/2011-15-dell-xps-15-l502x-r9-270-2gbmpci-e-x1-exp-gdc-v8-4d-amd-egpu-detection-and-internal-display-trick/#post-5327

Do you have any ideas?

Have you had any luck?

I have the same machine. Any updates on your end? I got it to show up in additional drivers ONCE, and then ran into the same problems (not booting, freezing internal mouse/keyboard/Ethernet when plugged in).

So made a research about the components necessary to build a gaming laptop with external graphics and I end up picking:
LAPTOP: Lenovo t540p Thinkpad
CPU: I7 4700MQ
EGPU ADAPTER: EXP GDC beast 8.0
GPU: RX 570 8gb OC MSI
PSU: Dell DA-2 220W
MONITOR: LG 24MK400h
So, I connected the everything and turned on the laptop as the guides said, and Black screen in Internal/External but the GPU fans started spin.
I then tried to connect the Expresscard port while windows is running and nothing, i tried to connect the HDMI port at the EXP GDC and the graphic show up as a VGA adapter in the internal, and searched the drivers and it showed me the Graphics label as Rx 570. and the drive is telling me that there is no graphic detected when I tried to restart it gave me the same problem...Black screen.
So, can anybody help me?

Hello
I need help
I can not install my egpu. I'm very frustrated. I have days trying.
I'm sure my laptop is compatible for egpu but I'm missing something.

I have a dell precision m4800
I7 4800QM
Quadro k2100m
eGPU Asus gtx 960 turbo ram 4gb
eGPU 2 Readon HP 7770 1gb ram
Power supply EVGA 500W
Adapter 8.4 with expresscard
voltage regulator 800w Koblenz
monitor Samsung F390
Bios A23
Operating system w10

MY PROCEEDING
1-.quitar quadro k2100 drivers, with DDU
2- connect egpu
3- connect expresscard
4-power source of power. Note: if the exprescard is connected to the laptop, the fan of the egpu runs at maximum, if the exprescard is off, the fan is slow.
4.1-Connect HDMI cable from egpu to monitor. It has not signal,
5. Turn on laptop. Everything goes normal because my pc runs with the integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 4600)
6- Open device manager. but my laptop does not detect the egpu. Note, it also does not detect quadro k2100 because it is untied.
7-Download drivers for egpu gtx 960.
8-Restart system in safe mode.
9-Install driversgtx 960. Note: Impossible to install. message: No compatible hardware was found.
10-Remove and put exprescard with laptop on. and off, and in suspended mode. It never detects the egpu. I did it for egpu gtx 960 and for egpu readon hd 7770.
I have 3 days trying. I'm sure all the devices work.

I have seen videos of the M4800 running with egpu. But nobody seems to have problems.

Theories:
1- I thought that my motherboard (DELL 0T3YTY) did not support more RAM. I removed a RAM to the laptop. before I was 16gb now has 12gb. Enough to run GTX 960 O HD 7770.
But I think maybe I attack that problem badly.
2- Maybe I need to configure the expresscard port. I have not read any of that, so I have not tried to move expresscard drivers.
3- Maybe the bios is not compatible with egpu. but install DIY. It closes immediately after opening, Do not run DIY.

I SHARE SOME PICTURES.

Hello guys, I'm trying to setup a GT 1030 using the EXP GDC Beast version 8.5C on a generic no brand laptop that has a Core i7 620m (1st Gen), 8Gb of RAM and 500Gb SSD. I bought the Dell DA-2 220W power brick for powering it as well. I've been trying to set everything up but still hasn't been successful, can anyone help me out with this? I would really appreciate it, thanks!

Hi,
I am wondering a way to egpu my laptop ASUS ROG G750JM.
I bought it (thought it would be almost plug and play) after failed to egpu my old HP DV7 due to not having a successfull DSDT override.
I have a PCE164P-N03 adaptor. I already managed to connect it to mpcie port but no successful boot just glitches on laptop screen.
This ROG bios is very limitated bios but I found an option to enable or disable Thunderbolt, so is it Thunderbolt capable?

Long story short, what are chances of getting it to work with egpu with Thunderbolt or the PCE164P-N03 I have available here?
If I buy DIY eGPU Setup 1.35 would be of any help here?

My regards!

ps: I have one desktop PC with three eGPUs working flawlessly doing my rendering jobs, so my skill are limited but does exist.

I am at my wits end, I have scoured the internet looking for my problem to no avail, when I boot up my EGPU (GDC beast btw) to my t430, everything is fine, I saw a thread that said to run in UEFI mode so it would get past the windows logo and that works fine, but now whenever I run just about ANY graphics-intensive game, its guaranteed to crash maybe 5 minutes into gameplay (i can play games like superhot, but not Forza horizon) I didn't always have this problem, but I can't find out what changed or if I somehow changed something that made it this way.

Specs:
Lenovo T430 (not T430s)
8gb ddr3
3320m processor
GTX 960
GDC beast V8.0

PLEASE HELP!

P.S. I don't really care about this, but the laptop REFUSES to hotplug, it requires me to completely shut it off and start it up after plugging it in to even recognize it in device manager.
