@modist

I turned on the hot-plugging by activated it on the bios, you can look my post on another thread made by Xray

https://egpu.io/forums/expresscard-mpcie-m-2-adapters/how-to-enable-hot-plug-for-pci-e-port-using-hidden-settings-in-bios-examle-for-phoenix-securecore-tiano/#post-17417

I attached some other software that I used.

If you have an ux32vd like me, I can help you

@Eloi, your Asus ux32vd has no implementation guide as yet at https://egpu.io/external-gpu-implementations-table/ . Did you want to create one to help other ux32vd owners? It would be a good place to include or make reference to the BIOS mods ands tools you needed to get the eGPU working without error 43.

Lenovo Y570
   Intel Core i7 (2nd Gen) 2630QM / 2 GHz
   8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333
iGPU Intel HD 3000 (installed, disabled)
   dGPU GeForce GT 555M (inactive)
Windows 10 Pro
EXP GDC 8.x via mPCIe (WiLan)
   eGPU Gigabyte Windforce GTX770oc 2gb; ATX 480w
   Vizio M470VT 47" HDTV

@xRay I see you got your Y570 setup to work.  I have read your guide but please chime in if you're able
@bernida @SmartW I saw you were both also attempting to get your Y570 to work.  Did you succeed?
@Nando4

Stability Problem

After much tweaking (flash bios, replace PSU, disable dGPU, acquire eGPU Setup 1.35) I have overcome boot hangs and errors 12 & 43.  I can now boot to Windows with my eGPU "working properly".  But it is unstable.  I can run the render in CPU-Z and can start Civ V and VI (my only two games) with success.  Both games startup and I can navigate the menus and load or create a new game, but both games crash at the moment the screen would switch from 'loading' to the onset of the actual gameplay (they run fine, but with poor performance, with the iGPU).  I have found that if I change my ingame video settings to the absolute lowest and lower my resolution to 1024x768 that I can sometimes successfully enter gameplay and maybe play one or two turns before the system crashes.  I have had four different outcomes with this crash;

- black screen and freezes (usually this one)
- black screen but system stabilizes on main display and reports FGXRenderer11:Present failed hr=DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED. Driver failure
- black screen and app restarts
- black screen and system restarts
Attempted fixes:
I have updated DirectX and installed the latest nVidia drivers.
I have slowed my eGPU to 80% using MSI Afterburner
I have given the eGPU PSU its own power outlet
I have set my eGPU to Gen1 via Setup 1.35
I have reduced my PCI bus from 2 to 1.1

Given that I'm able to get to windows with my eGPU "working properly" without errors 12 and 43, does that eliminate the possibility that:
   - a DSDT override could be the fix?  (I attempted it but found it too difficult)
   - continued adjustments to my eGPU Setup could solve the problem?

What's my next move?  I'm not to the point where I'll replace/shield/make a new PCIe_HDMI cable though I'll get there eventually.

Are there any clues that anyone could glean from:
   - the point in those games where the crash is occurring and the error displayed?
   - the performance log from CPU-Z

Anything you can offer to determine which of the following is the problem or where I should go next is hugely appreciated!  This stuff is really way over my head, but I'm determined to get it to work!  Is it:

- drivers/software (DirectX)
OR
- configuration (Bios; Setup 1.35; DSDT; Windows)
OR
- hardware (power, cabling, failed components)

My next plan is to try and:
   - roll back my eGPU driver to the one that @xRay got to work
   - see if I can run 3DMark
   - install some free 3D game from Steam

If anyone can suggest other benchmark/diagnostic software or a free Steam game that might be good for testing, please do.

Thanks so much for your help!  Frustrated but determined...

Choraltrickster, your systems  matching those of a hardware problem.  Please work through these items on the opening post:

  • “NVidia driver stopped responding” intermittent messages: can’t run Gen2 signalling
  • The eGPU stops working after some time of use

eGPU Setup 1.35    •    eGPU Port Bandwidth Reference Table    •    Several builds

Thanks Nando.  I've downclocked my GPU and switched to Gen1.  I've plugged my PSU into its own outlet. I will see what I can do about the cable if you think that's the source of the failure. Thanks again

Hi, I have tried for a few days to get the eGPU connected to my laptop. I have read a lots of topics and I still have a problem.

First, my eGPU is working only when I boot with wifi card installed and after this, sleep mode and plug in egpu. All is working and after installing the driver, the system requires a restart.

-When I press OK it`s shutting down and remains black screen.

-When I Shut down and power on manually, is not recognize my egpu again and the driver installation is not completed so I have to install again. Have anyone an idea about this issue?

Do I need a DIY eGPU?

 Thanks

Hi all,

I have issues with my EXP GDC V8.0

It has been working right with a XFX Radeon HD 5850 Black Edition 1Gb (exp gdc switches on factory positions).

Today I tried a MSI GTX 1060 GAMING X 3Gb (combining switches on all available combinations) and i'm getting a black screen with the loading animation of Windows 10.

System specs are:

  • ASUS K55VD
    • Intel Core i7-3610QM
    • 2 x 8 Gb DDR3-1600 / PC3-12800 DDR3
    • iGPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000 (enabled)
    • dGPU: NVIDIA GeForce 610M (disabled)
    • Windows 10
  • PSU: Corsair RM650X
  • EXP GDC V8.0 mPCI-E + MSI GTX 1060 GAMING X 3Gb (372.70 drivers)

Hope someone can throw a bit of light to my setup to get it working again!

Is it normal for the mPCIE slot to be 2.0/3.0? On my laptop it's shows 3.0 but when i click my egpu card under it, it shows at 1.1. I have no clue if an actual 3.0 card will stay 1.1 if i tried it. My HD5450 has a 2.1 bus.

@thegameplayer, use GPU-Z and click the "?" next to bus interface to do a render test. It will show the max link speed under load. Your 6th gen i-core has Gen3 capable PCH PCIe ports.

@nando4, I disabled the iGPU and dGPU inside device manager and ran GPU-z but it's still at 1.1.

Is this because of my bios? There is no option for changing PCIe anything.

If you look at the "Bus Interface" part, you will see that it says PCIe x16 1.1 @x1 1.1

The orange is what the GPU itself supports, the magenta is what your laptop is currently running it at.

Even if you laptop supports 3.0, it will not run at 3.0 if the GPU supports only 1.1. You could try a newer GPU that has PCIe 3.0 support.

Altough, when I look at the gpu-z images of the HD5450 on google images, I can see that it supports 2.0 in most cases. Could be that your specific model of HD5450 oddly supports only 1.1 or there is some other weird mismatch.

Incase of the laptop having it locked to 1.1 in bios (which is not the case as HWinfo shows it having 3.0 capable pcie) or incase of a broken connector cable, it would still show the designed bus interface for the GPU correctly.

@tauio111, thanks for the insight. I have this model:  https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102882

It says 2.1 so i'm not sure whats going on.

I wish I had a 3.0 card with me to try and see if that's going to work better.

In hwinfo, the wifi card also ran at 1.1 before i took it out and the other pcie slot is for the ethernet port running at 1.1 also.

This is the adapter i'm using: https://world.taobao.com/item/548352185850.htm?

It's also on max performance mode and not power saver.

EDIT: I checked on my old computer and the gpu shows x16 2.0 @ x16 2.0. So theres something wrong in my laptop.

Refer to the nvidia thread. For first you will need to have hotplug enabled for the pci slot through bios if you want to run newer nvidia cards.

WLAN and ethernet rarely come in 2.0/3.0. 1.1 is normal for those. For me the only things running at above 1.1 are the eGPU and the USB 3.0 XHCI controller for example, both of which have an actual need for 5GT/s.

Afaik the firmware of the pci-e device indicates its maximum pci lane width/version. The fact that the indicated card pci-e version differs on different host machines is beyond me. It should not be caused by the adapter.

Has anyone attempted to desolder the HDMI header on the GDC EXP and solder the wires directly? Obviously I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who isn’t incredibly handy with a soldering iron but if we had good documentation of the pinout and cable colors, this would be a great consideration for fixing gen2 signalling speeds (connectors are always the greatest source of noise) over buying the now extremely overpriced pe4c.

Stabilizing the EXP GDC Gen2 link using ferrite beads and/or soldering your own cable is covered in the opening post, section:

“NVidia driver stopped responding” intermittent messages: can’t run Gen2 signalling

maybe we can work on this together. I have a similar setup, Y570 & 770GTX, 480w PSU.

I have gotten my eGPU to show as 'working properly' in Windows device manager, but the eGPU crashes during gaming or other GPU stress tests/diagnostics.  Please let me know if you are successful

Just buy EXP GDC and you won't have any problems at all. Everything will work just out of the box without any utilities, additional software an so on. I have the y580 too.

Hello Igor, i have tried de riser on a hp 250 g1 and it worked flawless. I tried again on my lenovo , no detection.. i have the 2.0x bios version unlocked, but i dont know if the white list was removed. The hotswaping in sleep mode desnt work with riser.i gues i must cover some pcie lanes in order to bypass the WL?

in the meanhile i deactivated the integrated video card from bios , now i can see anithing on the screen. Is there a way to reactivate it blindly?

thanks.

Clear CMOS bios could solve the issue, maybe.

Or you need to reset the NVRAM memory, quite tricky to do without taking apart the whole laptop. And finding if the MB have a reset NVRAM pcb jumper.

You best hope is to leave the laptop a month or even more, without powering it, without CMOS and laptop battery.

Manual NVRAM reset on memory chip could kill the chip and the laptop. Last resort could be a external programmer.

Or buy an Exp GDC and hope that the laptop will boot straight to the external gpu, blank black boot, but when windows load it take the eGPU in account.

The card will only work at PCIe x1 1.1, the platform should support PCIe 2.0 though.

Weird thing is, the onboard GT555M, while being an x16 Link (as expected), also only works at Gen 1.1. (should support up to gen2.0)

just force the dGPU to render anything (with GPU-Z or with some games) and it should show the correct 2.0 gen status

I did the reflashing with spi first time i bricked bios, files for 2 eeproms got them from bios mods. This time , given the fact that igor has the sam bios insydeh2o menu( mor or less) maybe he can guide me: like left arrow 4x tahn down arrow 4x, than down arrow 3x etc ( all done on my side with black screen). I activated also fastboot, will this prevent me using F2 key to enter bios? Or fast boot means something else?

I thought you edited the NVRAM setting, with the EFI boot trick, since this option do not show even in modded bios for the reason you are posting now.

So yes if the option is unlocked in the bios you could do that, it should work.

Fast boot should not block you the access to the bios through F2 key, it just skip some hardware check not related to the gpu i think.

I have managed to rewrite bios with stick blind rewriting( fn+b , usb stick with bin/rom file pluged in).

About the egpu, still doesnt work on my lanovo, even with fresh copy of win 10 and win 7.

Something i noticed is that if i power up egpu some sec. after power the laptop, the 970 gtx's fan starts to spin real fast. Is that meaning that the egpu doesnt get the needed voltage, or too much via mpcie.?

now my bios is the original one, unmoded. Bios doesnt give the xxxx measge for WL , the boot just go one until win. Same thing was happening with WL removed bios, this is why I asked how can you tel if WL is present?

About the plug and play compatibility of riser 007s , until now i have tried on HP 250 G1, and it works with 970gtx. Perhaps it is like you have said, it depend on motherboard, mpcie slot, booting timeing.

If the card slows the spin about when windows is loading, than you know you have detection in device manager.

So I basically followed the guide on fixing the 'error 43' with gtx 10 series cards in an egpu setup. That went fine and I thought there is also a solution for error 43 on intel hd 4600 integrated graphics (as I want to use optimus), however no one else seems to have this issue.

https://imgur.com/92alRj1 - issue shown here.

I installed the igpu drivers again and again and there is no difference, is there anything that can be done? Will installing windows 7 be better optimized for my setup?

The internal screen on my laptop is also blank and optimus does not work, however games and benchmarks run flawlessly. Using an external monitor defeats the whole purpose of having an eGPU setup which is why I'm posting here for help.

BTW my laptop is a Clevo W540Su1

Thanks

Wrong. Using an internal monitor defeats the whole purpose of having an eGPU setup. People use eGPU to increase the performance of their laptops, because the performance of the internal videocard is not enough. And using an internal display decrease significantly the performance of you powerful eGPU because of very thin x1 PCI-E lane which you a trying to use in both directions (from laptop to videocard an then from videocard to laptop back). Using internal display can be justified only if you have more PCI-E lanes and if they are at least Gen3. In other cases it has no sense and wasting your money for the powerful videocard.

Y580 has white list, but EXP GDC doesn't affected by this on this laptop. And you don't need to unlock your BIOS or remove white list from there. So i recommend you to use exactly EXP GDC.

Hi,

i have dell 5437 with intel HD graphics and dGPU gt740m 2gb. Non hot plug mPCIe (wlan)

i intend to use exp gdc that just arrived from china with gtx 1050 ti.

i want to ask use that do I need to disable my dGPU gt740m or not? Or I just follow the fix for error 43 on gtx 10 series by GynTh0r?

can u help me with this?

Ok, there is a performance dip but with a GTX 1080 that is negligible in games at 1080p. Is there anyway in which this code 43 error for the iGPU can be solved? Should I try installing windows 7 to stop the driver issue.

Thanks

Wrong, again. The higher settings and resolution in games you choose, the higher x1 lane bottleneck dependency you get. Because more data began transmitts through PCI-e.

Is there anyone that has successfully implemented a dell e6510 with the exp gdc v8?

Im running win7 and can get the card is detected and installs (used DDU to clean up and install the card)

But I keep getting an error saying "no display attached to nvidia an gpu" tried different driver versions, different monitors attached the the gpu, different gpus etc but this has not resolved the issue.

Do I need to buy the 1.3 setup? or dsdt override?

I wanted to know if there is no other way to get this to work without having to purchase more software/hardware.

I manage to get the card detected and installed but although in device manager the gfx cards are (working properly) Im not able to access Nvidia Control Panel due to a “Your display is not attached to an Nvidia GPU”

Dell E6510 I7-820QM AND 4GB RAM

Tested with GT430 and GTX660Ti 2GB OC

Both ended with the same results

I 'd like to post a FULL guide but I cant find the information to get it working from scratch

@Angelo, suggest you upgrade to win10. They you'll be able to disable the Nvidia dGPU graphics due to either being too old or Quadro type, and install the Geforce driver for your eGPU. That mechanism is unavailable in Win7 since secondary video adapters don't work if the primary dGPU is disabled.
