@jeroen-van-keulen, a test PM was sent to confirm functionality. Please reply if receive it.
@mac_editor , suggest use pastebin.com if needing long commandline syntax sharing that isn't correctly displayed by the forum messaging system.  Please PM an example of the broken syntax.

EDIT: problem appears to be fixed, but as PMed, please monitor and advise if any other PMs appear broken.

My suggestions stand as above - I highly recommend adding automate-eGPU EFI to Software section at least - its an amazing solution. Maybe also consider adding set-eGPU.sh (which will be improved soon). Plus, troubleshooting guide would be a great go-to for people having questions - which would avoid duplicate posts if it were more visible to new users.

Consider making writing system specifications (computer model, etc. could be placeholder text) in signature compulsory for new users - and possibly implement requirement for existing ones.

Also, is it just me or do script names get automatically linked:

This, so many questions are asked without giving full set up details. Also, signatures should be build guide links.

It might also be good to have a flow chart or question based portal that helps people find the right solution because there are quite a few now and it can be confusing.

Simple example: What Brand > Apple > What Model > Mac mini > What year 2018 > What OS > Windows > What GPU > AMD = EFI boot loader (ok, slightly bad example as I don't think you need anything from what itsage has shared but you get the idea).

Is there a limit or guideline on how many lines a signature can have for build guide or systemspecs?

Markdown status here advises this is not planned yet. We'll take this under consideration for sure. Yes, those eGPU.io software keywords auto-link to their homepage 😉

@nando4 Auto-linking is really neat! Good to see. I noticed even reviews are linked (like Asus XG Station Pro). Adds so much more info. and context to any user's post automatically.

In reminiscing about my recent time on eGPU.io, the things I'm doing most here recently:

  • Telling people that NVIDIA web drivers are not available yet for Mojave
  • Requesting people to add their build/potential build to their signature (this has been addressed in a way with default signatures I noticed - nice!)
  • Requesting people to read the entire document before using any software here

Having an announcement section or something could be cool.

@eightarmedpet above suggested an idea about having a question-based portal. Incidentally I had also discussed this idea previously with another user privately on the forum but it seems they were busy and could not proceed with this, so I also think it's a great proposition. In addition, I have summarized some mac combinations here. While that should clarify most things, it requires that people read through all of it :p

Another important thing I noticed is that sometimes people don't search for/miss the build guides before posting. So having a portal could serve as a sort-of pathway to the resources.

This forum has documented success on a variety of platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux, and a variety of hardware configurations) thanks to the work of the admins and contributions of various users, but in my opinion it could be a little difficult for a new user to harness all of this information as it can be hard to find. The search results could also be clearer (and perhaps link to posts rather than pages) - though I actually use it fairly often to locate some older posts - usually works great.

How about putting one of the “where to start” guides on the home page? As the forum expands it gets harder to find things and can be overwhelming for new comers.

Will try and mock mock something up to illustrate.

Not sure if its just me but I'm finding the new way of organising threads very confusing.
Are they now listed by date created rather than last post? Feels like things get lost quite easily that way.
I thought it was great when there was "recent posts" and "new thread" cats.

@nando4 Request for auto-hyperlinking 'purge-nvda' and it's variants (purge-nvda.sh, PurgeNVDA, etc.) + page shortcut. It seems it is relatively often mentioned and usage goes slightly beyond just disabling NV GPUs (switching mux).

Additionally, under the Software tab, "eGPU Solutions" may be redundant given presence of the eGPU.io header (one may infer that software on this site is an eGPU solution). Thus software section could be: macOS ≥ 10.13, macOS ≤ 10.12, Bootcamp, and a section should be added for nvidia-error43-fixer (maybe Windows).

"How-To" section could be categorized by OS as well: macOS, Windows, and Linux (once we have dedicated guides) as well as we have recently seen some cool Linux builds. Maybe some Linux users could write up a comprehensive guide (I recall @nu_ninja had a nice guide for a build which could be expanded).

"Buyer's Guide" for GPUs might be awesome too. Weighing in the OS/hardware/system (macOS, Windows), goals to accomplish (CUDA, gaming, etc.), and then providing a recommendation based on some builds here.

@eightarmedpet the 4 menus (Forums, Builds, etc.) could also be emplaced over the hero image with appropriate font colors, shadow, or translucent background (I believe a while back this was indeed the case). Additionally, that could be a good place to put in a mini "Get Started" applet/portal to redirect users to relevant resources.

Hey everybody,

I just wanted to drop in real quick and say that whatever your opinions of the hero image and the menu bar were, the redesign I woke up to today doesn't feel like a better approach. It's tasteful, but also confusing. I didn't even realize that the four <p> blocks were links until I found this thread, checked out the post from @eightarmedpet about the hero image, realized that the menu bar was getting ditched, and connected the dots. I love the parallax scroll and I'm living for the tight integration of site colors, but I think the new link tiles need to be more obviously separated from the hero. I'll post a quick mockup of what I mean in like, 10 minutes.

So this isn't perfect by any means - especially at smaller breakpoints - but it at least hints at these being links.

EDIT: omg I didn't realize you both were keeping tabs in the topic! Hi! Not trying to be rude or anything to either of you, I just felt frustrated by words and my confusion at new things and decided to drop in with an example.

Not taken that way. Any improvements to the website are always welcome, and discussions here lead to them.

@eightarmedpet yes, would love to see your take. Also maybe the eGPU.io logo and text could be larger and front and center.
