ISO: older Sonnet TB1/2 Interface card
I just bought a Sonnet Echo Express SEL Thunderbolt 3 enclosure on eBay before realizing it was TB3, and I just need TB1/2 for the time being on my older MacBook Pro. I'm looking for somebody that may have upgraded to TB3 and has the old one lying around. Happy to pay a little something for your time plus shipping to 75094. Not really looking to swap/trade since eventually I'd probably need to upgrade myself. Thanks.
Good idea, thank you, didn't realize it was bidirectional. Except I think I'd lose the possibility of daisy chaining a miniDP display, and not sure if another USB-C to TB2 would work to pass that along downstream. I typically use the other port on my MBP for ext display and even though I was hoping to consolidate, do like the idea of gaining a USB-C.
Still figured somebody's got to have an old interface card lying around and probably think it's not worth much to bother listing.
@jdp83 You will not lose the possibility of daisy chaining a miniDP display. Just connect a USB-C (male) to mini DisplayPort (female) adapter to the second Thunderbolt 3 port of the Sonnet Echo Express SEL. This works because the Thunderbolt 3 port also supports USB-C 4 lane DisplayPort alt mode + USB 2.0 and USB-C two lane DisplayPort alt mode + USB 3.1 gen 2.
A second USB-C to TB2 adapter will work but only for Thunderbolt 2 devices - you cannot use the TB2 port of the USB-C to TB2 adapter for DisplayPort - instead, a Thunderbolt 2 device must be connected and that Thunderbolt 2 device will convert Thunderbolt DisplayPort packets to DisplayPort. In this case, if the Thunderbolt 2 device has two Thunderbolt ports, and your computer is a Thunderbolt 2 host, then the Thunderbolt 2 devices can be connected first, then the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, then Thunderbolt 3 devices. This way, only one adapter is required.
