@niccottrell, there may be a serial number somewhere? If it is first gen, like mine, there is no way to power it apart from actual TB3.

@eightarmedpet, when you say power it do you the signal? Both the Mac, eGPU and display all have power.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@palad20, Hi there.

I am using a Mac mini 2018, an Asus eGPU, and mocha usb-c to displayport cable and the new LG Ultrafine 5K too.

I would like to use my eGPU for playing games on windows.

The egpu works fine on macOS Catalina using the Heaven Unreal Engine app and setting it prefer egpu.

Then I connected the gpu-graphics-card display-port output via mochi to my LG Ultrafine 5K.

Unfortunately, the display stays black.

What do I have to to get a signal out of my graphics-card display-port?

Thank you for your answer, Heiko

@chrichton, are you sure you have the latest LG UltraFine 5K display (27MD5KL-B) ? If so, then a bidirectional USB-C to DisplayPort cable should work to allow 4K resolution. However the Moshi cable might not work in all situations. Maybe a different cable will work, such as the Amazon basics cable or the cable from ALOGIC.

@joevt, thanks a lot for your answer.
Yes, I am using the 27MD5KL.
My graphics card is a Sapphire
PULSE RX 5600 XT 6G GDDR6 and features 3 DisplayPort 1.4.

i am planning to use it for playing games on win10.

But before I would like to test the graphics card on macOS Catalina.

Can I do that using the Heaven at example?

Do I have to set Heaven to "prefer external egpu?

Can I use any of the three displayport outputs on my graphics Card?

Do I have to connect the Moshi usb-c to the thiúnderbold or the usb-c input of my lg monitor?

or: what would be the best way to test my configuration on macOS Catalina?
