How is the Huawei VR 2 cable working for those who have been using one? Mine died today after less than two months of periodic testing. Due to the ASUS USB-C MB16AC portable monitor needing bus power, I always had to connect the USB-A piece to one of the USB ports on the host computer. It did not work when connected through the Thunderbolt 3 enclosure's expansion USB ports (tested with Mantiz Venus and Razer Core V2).

Today I tried with an ASUS USB-C MB16AP portable monitor which has a built-in battery. It came with an external power adapter (5V ~ 2A). I decided to connect the Huawei VR 2 USB-A to the ASUS power adapter and that worked right away. After this test however this cable no longer seems to work. I have tried with different computers and configurations. I also used a Pluggable USB-C power meter to see if there's any bus power through the Huawei VR 2 USB-C end. Unfortunately it showed nothing. My guess is the ASUS 10W power adapter burnt something inside this VR 2 cable.

I'm going to try Wacom Link Plus (ACK42819) adapter next. It's currently down to $62 on Amazon. Hopefully it can withstand more abuses than the Huawei VR 2 cable.

It seems that the Huawei Cable isn't available anymore. Any recommendations where to get it? I wan't to run two 22" 4K Ultrafine on my 2019 13" mbp. This Cable is more or less my only solution, combined with a Blackmagic Pro or Razer Chroma.

There are some Thunderbolt docks with a USB-C with DisplayPort alt mode output. The HP Thunderbolt Dock G2, for example, will let you connect one display to the USB-C port with DisplayPort alt mode output, and other display to the Thunderbolt port. The dock will be useful only if it's connected to the Blackmagic eGPU. Otherwise the displays will be powered by the internal GPU of the MacBook Pro.

Is the Thunderbolt port on that dock also capable of DisplayPort alt mode? My 4k Ultrafines are the 'old' ones with USB-C only.

Yes, same as the Thunderbolt port of your MacBook Pro. It's the same for every Thunderbolt port.

@itsage Could you please share your experince with the Wacom Link adapter?  Did it work? Can you make a quick comparison with Huawei VR 2 cable?

thank you in advance

@rukuru Unfortunately I have not had the chance to test this idea. Will definitely report my experience once I get it.

Since I have purchased LG’s 24 inch Ultrafine monitor, I have spent hours for searching a proper methodology to use it with both a desktop pc and eGPU setup. After concluding the fact that Huawei’s VR 2 Cable offers one of the very few feasible solutions, I have ordered the cable very recently. I also purchased a Deluck DisplayPort Female to Usb Type-C Male adapter as well as a proper display port cable to have all the possible solutions. But I must say that this endeavor has far exceeded my expectations and became perhaps the most difficult I/O challenge I have ever needed to deal with. And yet, perhaps I might need a desktop PC that had a Titan Bridge Thubderbolt 3 expansion card to fully utilize the monitor’s capacity. For now, I have a MacBook Pro 15 inch so I am very happy with what I have got from the monitor. But this should have never been that difficult at the first place. But I must say that this place became like my sanctuary. So thanks for all your contributions.

Hi, I signed up to this forum to comment and ask if you'd had a chance to try it yet?

I would like to also buy a Huawei VR2 Cable, but they have sold out (unless someone on this forum is selling one) but I am happy to buy a Wacom Link if that will work..

I'm primarily using a Mac Mini (2018) but also a 15inch MBP with a Ultrafine 4K (22inch one) display, but I'd like to buy an eGPU and use that with my monitor.

thanks in advance for any knowledge you may have!

I got one Huawei Cable and its working just fine with a Razer Core X Chroma + RX580. I can use the speakers and change brightness.

Big question now is, how to connect my second display with the Core X. Only source for the cable at the moment, seems to order it from china and wait 2-3 months.

Is there another known source for the cable (or does someone wants to sell his)?

Did someone tested the Wacom-Way?
