Is there any comparisons between different cards?

Since my eGPU will not do heavy work for 99% of time in use and will spend a lot of time, this is important to me.
I also don't want extra heat to the room and want to save in elecricity.

Anybody seen anything like this?

I tried to understand this:

https://www.tomshardware.com/features/graphics-card-power-consumption-tested

To my understanding this only tells how much power GPU will consume, when you play a game with certain settings. Which is different job for every gpu, since they produce different amount of details per second (pixels, voxels, etc.) based on alternating fps.

I think the more interesting set would be how many Watt-Hours are needed to finish a certain task, like encoding a video or rendering a 3d object.
And, like I said, how much does it use, when you do nothing. Like showing the desktop on 4k monitor.

I might me getting low priced navi10 or if there's not a noticable difference in efficiensy at idel & light use, something from the older gen.

i use a Razer Core X enclosure with a Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 5700 XT (8GB) in it.
i have 2x 4K displays connected to it.
I work on one monitor (sublime text) and watch video on the second in firefox:
The RX5700+Enclosure takes about 63W to 86W, while the mac mini itself is using 47W.
But what i dislike the most: when the mac mini sleeps (3W) the Razer Core X uses 18W constantly.
On heavy usage (game) i meassured a peak of 251W and about 200W average.
i had a older AMD Card in the same enclosure and it used to draw 20W in standby and 75W light use.

so what i know: my eGPU solution is not very efficient. 🙁
of course i can only talk about the Razer Core X enclosure.

if you completly turn off your mac or remove enclosure from your mac, it doesn't draw any power.
but who powers down their computer in 2020?

I guess my hpOmen will also waste power when on.
But I believe, that I will shut it down, when I don't use it.

What I'm looking for is, if there's difference between 570/580/590 & 5500 (all 8GB),

when using that only for desktop real estate expander.
(browsers, email, pdfs, office, calendar, etc)

Btw, does all 3 of those last gen wotk with macOS (mojave, catalina, big sur) okay?

I'd also like to know if there's a 5500 that has (dual-)dvi? (Got one good old Eizo).

If there's like over 20% difference in "desktop use" with one of those 4 options, I'd choose it.
I want to save electricity and produce as less heat as possible, because of ventilation problem.

Sapphire's 580 idling at 30 watts, other's 10 W...
This is the difference, I'm looking for.

Any charts anywhere for these idle power use...?

I guess this is the normal state of reviews:

One "real" card compared to ref. models...

Got power meter for few weeks to test stuff.

Full system (MacBook Pro 16-inch, BenQ EW3270U, Razer Core X (with Corsair SF600 PSU) and Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580) when idle draws:

  • ~68 watts when display is on lowest brightness and MacBook Pro on 50% brightness (perceivable brightness levels are somewhat equal)
  • ~104 watts when both display and MacBook Pro are on 100% brightness

This is something that's bothering me. I have changed my Razer's stock PSU to Corsair SF600 which is more power-efficient when idle (6-7 watts) but nevertheless still drains noticeable amount of power all-night long when MacBook Pro sleeping and display is on stand-by. When MacBook Pro is removed from enclosure draw drops to less than 0.1 watts.
