Cannot find anyone using the good old Apple Display 27 (mini display port) with eGPU setup. Just wondering, can I use something like a display port to mini display port cable adapter LINK to finish the setup. For example, Apple Display connected to a female end mini display port which transfer to a regular male display port then connect to an eGPU, then eGPU to TB3-TB2 adapter to my MBP.

I've read about a few folks with these displays and if I remember correctly the answer is no... its actually a thunderbolt 2 port rather than a mini display port although they are the same shape they function very differently.
Both macOS and W10 support eGPU usage on non connected display, although it is sub optimal, it may be your best option (its how my current set up works atm too).

Thank you for your reply! But, I think they have the updated display which the display itself is a TB2 hub as well. The one I brought, the cable is only used to transmit signals. At least thats what I found.  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4715309

I think I need to find a AMD card which has the female mini dispalyport or buy an adapter. Hopefully it will work.  😆

Assuming you have this display:

You can use the mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapters. They are the electrically equivalent.

Oh sorry, totally forgot they did a brief run of the 27's with Mini display port... which is funny as I actually have the 24 inch version sitting behind me unused atm (must remember to sell that...).
