Hello

I already posted this in a German Forum, but with no technical answer, yet. So if you want to weigh in there, the link is on the bottom of this message. I hope, you do not consider this to be a rude crossposting - in another language & specialised forum...

Here's my problem:

Mac Mini 2018, Mojave (latest update), i7 3.2 GHz // Asus XG Station Pro with an 8GB Sapphire Nitro+ RX580
The Mac's system report only discovers it as a 4GB graphics card.

With CL!ng, I see it as
"3: [MTL GPU] Radeon RX 580" with a "Maximum workingset size" of 4096 MiB
and as a
"2: [OCL GPU] AMD Radeon RX 580 Compute Engine" with a "Global Memory" of 4096 MiB and a Local Memory of 32 KiB.

No mention of 8GB anywhere.

CL!ng Bandwidth tests for the "Compute Engine" result in Single Precision Scalar 2658.92 / Vector 2589 .84 and Double Precision scalar 294.83 / vector 261.42 GFLOPS

In Adobe Lightroom - that was one of the reasons to get an eGPU - I also only see it as "RX580 4GB" in GPU acceleration options.

So: can you please tell me, what's wrong with this setup? Why don't I see 8GB? And can you tell by any of the values, I posted, whether this card setup is working or performing way under what it should?

btw.: I had access to a "admin-restricted" Windows Laptop, so I could not install any tools, but I could at least run DSDiag. There, it said: 8GB "Gesamtspeicher" (total memory),  4041 MB "Anzeigespeicher(VRAM)" (Display-memory/VRAM) and 3999 MB "Gemeinsam genutzter Speicher" (shared memory).

And for those, who want to jump in on the German forum, here is the link to my post there:

Thanks in advance for you help!

Consider you may have faulty VRAM and/or an incorrect boxed card from the factory like another user had at

@nando4

thanks for your reply.
I tried the little dip switch - The card does have a double bios - but to no avail. Slightly worse Benchmarks suggest, that moving the switch activates the “silent bios”.

I also took a close look at the labels on the card itself, they did not seem to be fumbled with and were identical with the ones on the outside of the box.

then I downloaded the Unigine benchmarks and was surprised, that the GPU temperature never exceeded 47° despite “extreme” setting.

due to the lack of my knowledge with graphic cards, the only thing that still strikes me is this strange distinction on Windows DXDiag between total memory 8 GB and VRAM of 4 GB and shared memOry of 4 GB, all attributed to the graphics card.

Maybe try a vBIOS flash and see if that would change. Otherwise I would say to exchange the GPU if possible.

I only have access to my Mac Mini - and found no BIOS flash tool for Mac, only Windows. The windows-laptop I have access to has restricted installation rights, and since I don't have admin-priviliges...
