Folks:

10.14.5 Beta is now PUBLIC.  Only 2.6GB.

Stupid question: I am itching, burning to install it on my main edit computer that I use for paying work.  I’ve been sitting on my Radeon VII and Akitio Node Pro for a month—it's gathering dust.  I know the prudent course is not to install it…and I’ve never installed a beta before…but…but...

Whaddya think?

Thanks.

Add a partition for the beta and boot back and forth between your production OS. That’s what I did. Smile

So far so good with 10.14.5 beta 1 for me. Plug and plug recognition on my Core X. Running some benchmarks to see how stable it is...

@screendor i don't do video editing (i do it on the side but not professionally) or things like that, i'm software engineer so i'm ok testing and using betas. I'm using it mostly for making games in unreal/unity as a hobby or 3d modeling in Mac, and gaming in Bootcamp.

@oliverb lol, i know. But i do have my Macbook Pro in case of something lol, and also time machines backups.

@arden_shibley it is worse, but hey it's stable, so i'm ok with that.

I should report back that I've been firing everything today at this in a production environment (FCPX, RX7, Photoshop etc.) using the new beta and the card has been solid with Razer Core X. Very happy considering the 10.14.4 final left me a bit pissed off. Im getting faster than usual high-rate hevc 8 bit encoding as well which is great. Its encoding close to normal h264 speeds! Glad I took a leap.

If it's slower but stable... I'm stable with my Vega 64 WC so aside from the novelty of seeing all three of those fans spin up, I think I'm literally better off waiting...

That novelty tho.....

OMG it works. Just installed the beta 10.14.5 Beta (public release). Currently, running it through the external monitor no issues yet. Will fire up Final Cut Pro and burn the s**t out of this card because I have been waiting too long for this day. Set up: Macbook Pro 13 (2018) + Razer  Core X + Radeon 7. No software modification other than installing the 10.14.5 Beta and plugging in the egpu unit as you would have if you had the old supported cards (e.g. vega 64/56) . I can run some benchmarks and post if you guys are interested. Very stable so far.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Yes, @barretts would love to see benchmarks and hear your impressions running Final Cut.  Awesome.

Is Radeon VII worked in bootcamp already ?

@a29620509 yes, it works pretty good for me. There are some users like Oliver with performance issues.

It's working for me with 10.14.5b1, as well.  Metal compute Geekbench score lags behind OpenCL some, but it's still twice as fast as the built-in Vega 20.
