Hi all,

First of all, I'm newbie on this website and really happy to join the forum community !

I'm looking for a solution to improve my laptop performance on 3D modelization software (mainly use Solidworks). My models are quite heavy and it becomes really painful to make design with my current setup : DELL Latitude 7490 with i7-8650U and UHD620 chipset inside.

So I recently discovered eGPU solution. I'd buy the Razer Core X with PNY QUADRO P2200 or AMD Radeon PRO W5500 inside but I can't find any proof of the compatibility between GPUs and the Razer Core X (List of compatible graphic chipsets with Razer Core X).

I already checked the "bottleneck" between my CPU and these GPUs : it seems to be quite balanced !

Do you have any idea of the compatibily ? Otherwise, which adapted GPU (in stock) could do the same job ?

Feel free to propose, any answer is really helpful for me !

Thanks !

@yann_rialland, First, does the 7490’s USB-C port have the Thunderbolt symbol over it?

The W5500 is listed on Sonnet’s compatibility chart for their Breakaway Box enclosure.

Dell has a good support article listing which systems do, don't or might have thunderbolt.

I would check the bios to make sure you have it.

@mini-i5, yes. @nu_ninja, I checked in the BIOS settings too.

Breakaway Box could be a good solution for the AMD GPU, thank you for the proposal.

On the P2200 side, I don't find any eGPU document with certification for this board.

Is there someone who's already tried a setup with the P2200 ?
