I've been looking around, but not found a direct answer to the topic. Has anyone seen how well AMD and Nvidia handle data over thunderbolt? Does one company have an advantage in addressing the expected performance loss over thunderbolt?

There's no direct answer. I think any Thunderbolt 3-equipped laptop may receive a huge increase in performance with an eGPU box like the AKiTiO Node Titan (with a good GPU). I've a 2018 Razer Blade 15″ (using it as my primary laptop). But now, I'm thinking about an Intel NUC (NUC817HNK), 32GB of Ram + 256GB SSD. It has 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports.
AMD Radeon Pro VII or NVIDIA RTX Titan?
To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
