Hi,

I just made this build.
I am pretty happy about it, except:

1) I can't run Guildwars 2 with everything set to high in QHD resolution (using https://github.com/megai2/d912pxy).
2) The Asus TUF RX 5600 XT OC EVO is quite noisy under macOS desktop usage (web, mail, text..).

Would it make a big difference if I upgrade to Asus ROG-STRIX-RX5700XT-O8G-GAMING ?

Thanks!

@daft_titan, The RX 5700 XT is an upgrade from RX 5600 XT but I don't think it's significant enough to be worth it. I would say to wait until RX 6000 series have macOS support to upgrade. Unless you are within exchange/return period then you can get the RX 5700 XT.

Of course! Boost frequency: ~ 2035 MHz in overclocking mode and ~ 2010 MHz in gaming mode.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@daft_titan, I am more than happy with the 5700xt.See my previous posters for benchmarks. Also note that with a dum hdmi adapter you can Improve performance by 20pct. I use a 49’ ultra wide and in sim racing games can get easily 100 FPS at 1440 mid to high settings.

enjoy

I ordered a 5700 XT to compare with 5600 XT and results in game/benchmark was minimal with eGPU, so I returned it.

Hi tsakal,

Can you elaborate on the dum hdmi adapter? Do you mean adding a dummy plug to the card to improve the gpu's performance? I heard that was a bug and was fixed.

Thanks!

@newtotheegpuworld, yes on macOS I run the test about a month ago and it scores higher with the adapter. on windows I could run the test as the main screen moves to the adapter and cannot grab the display window to change it.

@tsakal, Thank you for the info!

Any particular headless adapter you'd recommend? Does it matter if it emulates 1080p or 4K?

@newtotheegpuworld, Any from a reputable brand like owc  is fine. I got the one for 4K so it can stimulate the card to the max . Not sure whether it ll make a difference vs a 1080

@tsakal, I just got a 4K hdmi adapter and I can't say it improved anything.. at least gaming wise 🙁

Just wondering if I'm not doing something correctly. Would you mind sharing what you do? I just plugged it in and told the OS to mirror my current display.
