I know this is going to be covered everywhere... but I'm looking forward to what may be revealled and what in means within the egpu.io world.

The 16inch MacBook Pro is going to be a beast, I'd love it to come with a custom Navi chip meaning new drivers for macOS, but I have a horrible feeling Apple is going to stick to Vega for a year at least.

I'd love Apple to release their own enclosure for their custom cards when the Mac Pro ships but that again would be too good to be true.

Hopefully the Mac mini will get a small spec bump.

I started this egpu journey coming from a 650m equipped Macbook Pro and 770m equipped iMac where a GTX1050 would be a massive jump in performance and more than enough since I managed on worse before, I am now chasing as much performance as I can bloody squeeze out of a Mac and hoping something announced today will be worth buying.

What are other folks anticipating? Anyone planning to be a day one buyer (always a risk)? Will we get Navi support?

This event (as every event in september) should be focused to the iphone. Usually the event about MacBook and other stuff like this are in autumn. I don't expect anything news about eGPU.

@jefniro while I do feel it will be they do also have a habit of announcing new Mac hardware too - and the rumours are pointing towards the larger MacBook. But of course they may leave it for a month or so and another event (which they also have a habit of doing).

@Mac_editor I know right... but with them, and excuse the pun, doubling down on Vega for the new Mac Pro I fear it being a year off before we see Navi in macOS (iMac refresh?), I hope I'm wrong...

I’m actually looking forward to functional Sidecar in Catalina. Imagine a new iPad Pro lineup that has matching footprint as the topcase of MacBook Pro lineup. You would then be able to place the iPad Pro on top of the keyboard and trackpad area to use it like a full feature drawing pad (extended display mode). Sidecar can make use of an eGPU to accelerate this drawing pad too.

There should also be a Sidecar app on iPadOS. This would benefit headless Macs such as the Mac mini (primary display mode). I believe Sidecar display cannot be primary display in its current implementation. Once we’re able to use a Sidecar-iPad as the primary display, we have ourselves a wireless touchscreen Mac. I never wanted an iPad until seeing this possibility.

For users who would not accept a tablet as their computer replacement, Apple can make the tablet as the essential complementary accessories.

I tried it with Catalina Beta and my iPad (iPadOS) and it's not bad! It was not so stable...but it will.

Keynote finished.. unfortunately no (good) news for us...

The product page for macOS Catalina now says “Available in October”. This is later than the typically last week of September. They’re probably putting the finishing touches for the 2019 Mac Pro and maybe a few more new Macs. Navi drivers are not yet in the beta builds but will be soon after public launch of 10.15. My guess is 10.15.1 beta.

Yep Catalina needs work in general. Not sure if we will see Navi drivers that early, unless a new Mac uses this architecture or if you have insider info ;p
