eGPU Not Working Anymore Vega 56 + Razer X Chroma

Previously this combo worked perfectly. I'm using a 2018 Macbook Pro 15" touchbar with i9 2.9ghz 32gb RAM with Razer X Chroma and XFX Vega 56 . Now when I plug it into my mac it will show up for a sec in the tool bar but when I hover over the eGPU icon it says "no removable GPU" then the screen will flash black and the icon disappears, sometimes it re-appears and then disappears again never to come back. Unplugging it just repeats the same thing, the icon will appear and then disappear, the screen will flash but nothing else. I tried power cycling, removing the GPU for a while (it was somewhat hot), different ports, everything. It worked perfectly previously. The fans turn on for a second when it's plugged in and then stop, the lights on the Chroma turn on like it's being recognized but the computer is just not seeing it anymore. Not sure what happened

The GPU does not show up on system report but the Chroma does. Any ideas? My mac flashes like it's about to switch to the eGPU but never does and then the eGPU icon disappears

Hi

Sound like the graphics card may be faulty, do you have an older card to try with just to see if that one shows up?

And oh, do you run BootCamp, if so do Windows pick up the graphics card?

@realsoulskater

That's what I was thinking. It's just strange one day it was working fine with no issues and then the next day it does not work at all. Nothing changed. Last night I saw 1 fan running on the GPU while the other fan was not moving at all. Now every time I plug it into my Mac it crashes it and forces a restart with my Mac fans spinning up really fast for a sec.

I am going to try another graphics card. I don't think it's the Core X. I do not use bootcamp

@boomting, I JUST had the exact thing happen to me. Works perfectly still on my Dell laptop - recognizes and runs great, but out of the blue, it just stopped working on my Macbook Pro 2016. Literally nothing of note changed.

Were you able to fix this issue?
