@tsakal, alright i'll try turning off steam overlay and test it out. And thanks for the SSD recommendation, i will look into it.

Update: Tried turning off steam overlay and downgraded my amd driver to ver. 19.7.4 as online said this version was meant to fix crashes on GTA, however my GTA V still freezes and crash after 3-4min of gameplay.

@tripledouble,

I think you are using AMD Edition 20.1.2 from bootcampdrivers. The newest edition from AMD is 20.4.2 (ver 19.50.27).
Btw someone manage to fix the issue on reddit by changing the page file size. Have you tried that? Here

On another note, if you are connecting your external drive through the enclosure, it might get disconnected at times.

@tsakal

Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen/crash to occur when enabled. It is better to disable it. I have updated my windows
version to 1909 build 18363.815 (pci.sys replacement method). Save your 18362.30/.295 pci.sys file if you plan to update in the future.

@badtz, I update the AMD driver to 20.4.1 from bootcampdrivers and still experience crashes on GTA V. And yes i did adjust the page file size which is not working as well. My razer core x enclosure doesnt have a usb port so my external hdd is connected to my MBP instead.

@badtz, thank you for that. I just realized I don’t need it . FreeSync is good enough.
Just in case you know, when FreeSync is enabled is it working better with games vsync on or not.

Update: After changing my graphic card to Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti and changing my external HDD to SSD. Problem still persist as GTA V still crashes after min into the game. I also update windows to the latest which is ver.1909. All other drivers are up-to-date. I havent tested out on other games yet but i doubt it will work as well. Now i have no clue whats wrong with it. If is not a software issue and not a hardware issue then idk what problem is it anymore.

@Onion,

@TripleDouble,

Not sure if any of you guys figured out the issue but I think I have found mine.

I just got yesterday a new 2020 HP Spectre X360 with 1065G7, 16GB RAM, and eagerly setup my eGPU. Tried playing the games that would crash on my old 2015 MBP 13, and to my dismay it was still crashing. After fiddling around for hours, I finally decided to move the game that was crashing the most (Monster Hunter World) to my internal SSD since the new laptop actually had room to spare. Immediately the crashing stopped and I can even stream the game on Discord, which before would crash any game right away. I haven't moved any other games over to my internal drive to test yet, but I'm pretty sure the external SSD was causing the crashes. There is nothing wrong with the external SSD I have, but maybe the USB interface just doesn't work well when running games.

@nutype, Thank you anyway. I manage to fix the issue on my GTX 1050 TI by installing older driver 436.15 and my GTA V stops crashing for now. I think i'm gonna stick to this driver as i manage to run games like WWZ, CSgo, BF4 without crashing as well. All my games are still running from external SSD though. However, if i use MSI afterburner and tweak the settings a bit, it somehow cause my GTA V to crash, so i guess the best thing is to leave it as it is. Additionally, after countless of searching, I've learnt that u shouldn't update your graphic card drivers whenever there is a new update. You should only update the drivers when the new software that u are using are facing problems (like crashing, etc) with the old drivers, if not just stick to the old drivers.

Even though i manage to fix the issue i still do believe what u said about external drive might also be the problem. I had run GTA V on a super old laptop of mine just to test it out. The laptop has a geforce 820M 1gb Vram and 4gb ram but was able to run GTA V as well as online on an internal HDD without crashing at the lowest settings. So sometimes i'm just really confused how does all this even make sense.
