First denying me the Vega 20 GPU option, the purchasing department at my work decided to go their own way when ordering my eGPU, 🙁
Now I'm worried it won't run the HTC Vive Pro. What are your thoughts?
Laptop:
MacBook Pro15,1, 2.9 Ghz, 32 GB RAM, Radeon Pro 555X (4096 VRAM)
eGPU:
Radeon Pro WX 7100 8 GPB 4 DP
MacBook Pro 2018 Touch Bar, 2.9 GHz, 32 GB RAM, Intel UHD Graphics 630/Radeon Pro 555X 4096 GB
eGPU: Asus XG Station PRO + ?????????????????? (need recommendation)
Update: I was able to change the order line to the WX 8200.
MacBook Pro 2018 Touch Bar, 2.9 GHz, 32 GB RAM, Intel UHD Graphics 630/Radeon Pro 555X 4096 GB
eGPU: Asus XG Station PRO + ?????????????????? (need recommendation)
Any advice on this?

I have never used the WX 8200. However, based on the specs, I guess it would be comparable to GTX 1070 (or even 1080) and better than GTX 1060 6GB in term of VR rendering. I have tried the Vive Pro with GTX 1060 6GB eGPU on Bootcamp on my MBP 15” 2017, it works just fine. Of course, it cannot reach 90Hz all the time but mostly 70Hz ~ 80Hz. I think the WX 8200 would give better result than that.
I see the WX8200 only has 4 MiniDP so make sure you use the best MiniDP-to-DP cable or adapter.
