HP has a Spectre x360 update listed on their site, rocking the i7 8550U, a single TB3 port, as well as a MX150 2GB GDDR5 (this is essentially a GT1030) dGPU driving a 4K 15" display. My one question about the 8550U and 8650U is how long can they turbo-boost before they drop their clocks. 4 cores are nice, but if they spend most of their time at 2Ghz, then I'd rather have a 3.2Ghz dual-core.

Give your Node Pro a second Thunderbolt3 controller for reliable peripherals by re-using a TB3 dock (~50$).

For systems with a dGPU, I'd rather go with an HQ/HK CPU. The improvement in my opinion is to iGPU-only ultrabooks.

I want an iGPU only HQ/HK system in a relatively small form-factor. Judging by the TDPs on the parts, this Spectre could've been one of those (15W CPU + 30W dGPU matches perfectly with a 45W high-end CPU part), and they might have something like this down the like when the HQ/HK parts get released. That would be a perfect eGPU base-platform. Extra points for connecting the TB3 controller and M.2 slots straight to the CPU (seeing as there's nothing else goes there, pretty much), but if it is a design refresh, that is not likely.

We recently saw a forum member reported that the 15" Spectre X360 has x2 PCIe over Thunderbolt 3 connection. This is most likely the case still.

at the moment there are these systems with a HQ cpu and thunderbolt3 port:

-dell latitude 5570 (930m)

-dell latitude 5480 (940m)

-dell latitude 5580 (940mx)

-dell precision 7520 (igpu)

-hp zbook g4 15 studio (igpu)

-clevo n750hu (igpu)

-clevo n751hu (igpu)

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

I sort of meant relatively light systems (the Spectre 15" is ~2kg, whereas the ZBook Studio and Clevos are a bit heavier, but pretty close to the mark) with only an iGPU, most of the current systems are relatively large.

To add to your list:

-Lenovo P50/P51 (Various Quadros, including high-end ones)

-HP ZBook G3/G4 (non-Studio) 15/17 (Various Quadros, mostly mid-range)

-MBP2016/MBP2017 15" (Various Radeon Pros)

Oh, those Latitudes do look nice. For some reason I remembered that line being heavier! Very, very nice. Thanks for setting me straight.
