Hey everyone,

I'm in the middle of thinking getting a new laptop before letting go my current dell latitude E5570 for my wife. I'm in search for a laptop with good CPU and eGPU support available on TB3/M2 or even better.

The list laptop I have in mind now are;

Razer Blade 15 base model (There's a good deal) i7 8750H + 16gb ram + GTX1060 MQ

Commandos Glock 5 Plus by techarmory i5 9400 (desktop cpu) + 16gb ram + GTX1660 ti (2x M2 NVME slot available)

Both are nice laptop, the Razer of course slim and much lighter than the Glock 5 Plus (beefy design) and the price is not much different.

So, just asking for your opinion on getting the next laptop for eGPU project. Any recommendation laptop that are not in list are also welcome 🙂

Anyway, I'm from Malaysia.

Regards !

There’s a sizable difference in TB3 vs M.2 eGPU performance per my sig. If are OK with cobbling together another M.2 eGPU then consider these laptop:

1. Wait for AMD 4800U/4800H 8-core 7nm CPU systems to be released

2. MSI Prestige 15 with 10th-gen 6-core CPU and dual M.2 slots and TB3 port

3. 8th/9th gen 6-core H CPU thin-and-light workstations with *dual* M.2 slots and GTX1050, GTX1050Ti or GTX1650 dGPUs, dual FAN/heatpipes and TB3 ports:

Dell Inspiron 7590 or Dell Vostro 7590

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme or Lenovo Thinkpad P1

HP ZBook Studio G5 or HP Elitebook 1050 G1

honorable mention: Dell Latitude 5501 / Dell Precision 3541 or Dell Latitude 5591 / Dell Precision 3530 with SATA + M.2 slot, lower tier dGPU and single cooling fan

4. Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 15″ with 8th-gen U CPU, MX150 dGPU and dual M.2 slots, one is x4 and  other x2 – no TB3 port

eGPU Setup 1.35    •    eGPU Port Bandwidth Reference Table

Hey @nando4,

Was expecting you 😄

Thanks for the recommendation. I just check on the laptop mentioned (dell inspiron 7590 aka dell G7), but it seems it's over my budget. Even costly than the razer blade 15 base model.

Waiting for the ryzen 4800u/4800h seems like a good idea as Ryzen laptop + amd dGpu always come at much lower price than intel series. Performance is wise as it on par with Ryzen 7 2700 and Intel 9700. That's good computing unit and advanced! If the pricing of this laptop comes down to 800-1100 usd then I might just wait for it.

Anyway, I'm still using the R3G M2 eGPU and still enjoying it. It just that maybe it's good to have decent dGPU on the laptop and just hook eGPU whenever I need more graphic power.
