I just updated Mac mini 2018 with Vega 64 eGPU and got a black screen.  Restarted with a keyboard shortcut to the same problem.  I have shut it down for now.  Any ideas are appreciated?  Cheers.

I've had issues with the recent 10.14.5 betas and  the final release with certain usb storage devices preventing my MacBook pro from completing the boot process.  I would disconnect any unneeded peripherals and see if you can get to the desktop.

@ningauble77 Interestingly, the issue I am facing with these betas and release is that my left-farther port doesn't work with any disks/ethernet if I eject something and re-plug it (shutdown never completes as well in this state). Not sure if hardware related (hardware test says all good), and it works fine in Windows. Quite an annoyance. Needs a force-shutdown to fix.

After a little testing, narrowed it down to an external disk in the process of APFS encryption being ejected from that port.

Thank you for the tips.   I am running an OWC 14 port thunderbolt 3 hub with two external Samsung T5 SSD‘s and a WebCam.  I will try removing these one at a time.  I feel like I am beta testing for apple with the full version.

Hi everyone. I have a problem with 10.14.5 too. I can’t watch any movies in my ITunes library. The video signal is coming out all scrambled pink and green glitches. Only ITunes videos are doing this and it began with this 10.14.5 Mojave update that included Airplay. Does anyone here with Radeon 56 or 64 have the same problem?

I will test this for you when I can get to the desktop.  I wonder if I can roll back somehow to 10.14.4

I can watch iTunes movies after a successful boot with Vega 64 eGPU on 10.14.5.

Removing the attached dock does not fix the issue.  I was able to use a keyboard shortcut to put the Mac to sleep and then when I hit return the login screen appears and I am able to login fine.  A reboot gives me a black screen.  10.14.5 has problems in this setup.

I can only get to the desktop on 10.14.5  if I use keyboard shortcuts to put the Mac and then the monitor to sleep.   This works intermittently.   I can’t believe that they broke the EGPU functionality on a Mac mini in the software update.

Have you tried turning off the monitor then turning it back on?  My Macbook Pro+Radeon VII+10.14.5 setup only detects my external display if I turn off then turn the monitor back on during or after os load.  Closing the lid and opening it again also works which may be like your sleep/wake.

Yes, the screen stays black. Thanks.

this is not news. It's said that Apple (and the NSA) have access to virtually anyone in the internet. They collect data and the users are the testers.

Well, is there a MacOS like GUI Linux Distro that works and is not too hard to use?

Manjaro Deepin edition. Or the Deepin distro itself, though there are a lot of Chinese/Asia based apps in the store due to the fact the distro is created by a Chinese team and they don't keep up with updates to some packages very quickly. Manjaro with the Deepin DE is the best of both worlds. The UI is STELLAR in Deepin, the best HiDPI support by far. Here's my desktop back when I was using the Deepin distro, my Manjaro Deepin install looks indentical pretty much.

It is said by who about Apple? That's a bold claim.

I just updated Mac mini 2018 with Vega 64 eGPU and got a black screen.  Restarted with a keyboard shortcut to the same problem.  I have shut it down for now.  Any ideas are appreciated?  Cheers.

In the past, I connect my eGPU and LG 4k usb-c monitor to the left two TB3 ports and disconnect other devices. It makes the eGPU has enough resource to boot into the Win10.  But after the update, i can no longer boot into windows like this. It always gets a black screen. I tried to disconnect everything, just left eGPU there and it only worked once.  I don't know what happened.

It is really buggy.  Keystroke sleep for Mini and Monitor works after a few minutes for me.  I only use OSX.

Has anyone solved this?  I now have the screen going to sleep and then it will no show a login prompt or screen.  Is there a 10.14.6 soon?
