1st e-GPU on a MacBook Pro Retina 13" Early 2015 on El-Capitan 10.11.6
I have found some interesting ressources wrt. to my setup:
and since there is an awesome community here, I am going towards my 1st e-GPU trial !
But before investing I would like to ask about compatibility with my system.
I have a MacBook Pro Retina 13" Early 2015 running on El-Capitan 10.11.6.
I could update to High Sierra for instance, but I also need some old softwares so if possible I prefer staying on El Capitan and not risk an update now.
I am considering a Razer Core X case and would put inside an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 (I don't have the card yet, so it could also be a GTX 1070 Ti too for example). And connect with Thunderbolt 3 to 2.
Regarding the graphic card, how does it matter to use the versions distributed from Nvidia or MSI, ASUS etc. ?
Regarding e-GPU compatibility, I see that:
About CUDA installation, google found that:
so it seems that I should be able to install CUDA8 ... however, what about CUDA9 and cuDNN ?
(I use CUDA 9 x PyTorch on servers to train my models)
So before investing, please, I would like to ask for double-checking that all should be well compatible.
I never setup an e-GPU, these guides seem to be rather straight-forward so I am enthusiastic but I would be very thankful for your confirmation !
Also it's my 1st post so a bit about me and my use case .. I do some deep learning experiments for my PhD, applied to sound synthesis and audio effects. I mainly use Python and PyTorch. But I'd like to have an eGPU for running models in realtime, as PureData externals for instance with MIDI mapping.
Thanks in advance
