[Solved] 2014 MacBook Pro 15" /w Iris Pro + Aorus Gaming Box GTX 1070
Hello, I've been watching this forum for a long time now, and finally seems that buying an eGPU is a more solid solution than it was one year ago, so I decided to go for it. Since I couldn't find this exact setup nowhere, I decided to start this topic hoping to convert it to a guide once everything is set up and working
I will be mainly using the GPU for Deep Learning tasks using Tensorflow and do some occasional gaming.
So, I just got the Box /w GPU and the Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter, going to format MacOS and start with a clean build.
I have a question. To have two different versions of Tensorflow (GPU & CPU), I just need to create two different virtual environments?
Okay, so i managed to make the GPU working. First I tried goalque's script: https://egpu.io/forums/mac-setup/two-new-egpu-solutions-on-macos-10-13-4-pure-efi-and-hybrid/ but the system crashed each time I plugged in the eGPU.
So I uninstalled everything and tried the purge-wrangler script.
Just followed it's guide, rebooted, inserted a headless HDMI plug into the external box and the eGPU activated.
Tried to run Unigine Heaven but uses the Iris Pro.
Do you know what could be causing this?
I'll try another game later, before trying to install tensorflow.
EDIT: Tried DoTA 2. Everything runs fine with maxed settings, amazing. Now installing Tensorflow.
@civilian hello! Yes, and I wrote a step-by-step guide:
https://egpu.io/forums/mac-setup/tensorflow-gpu-1-8-with-macos-10-13-6/#post-53915 you can find the forum discussion about it (there's an older guide, too. I'd follow the gist one).
Sorry for the mess but didn't have much time to fix both threads since.
