I mostly work with nVidia cards on Bootcamp but would like an AMD card to use for FCPX and a couple other things on the MacOS side. However I'm completely lost with AMD's lineup.

Out of the cards apple supports with eGPU's on MacOS listed here  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208544 what is the latest and greatest?

Ordereded from highest performance & price to lowest, with “Pro” cards being the professional/pricey equivalent:

  1. AMD Radeon RX Vega 64, Vega Frontier Edition Air, Radeon Pro WX 9100
  2. AMD Radeon RX Vega 56
  3. AMD Radeon RX 570, RX 580, and Radeon Pro WX 7100 graphics cards

1. requires a eGPU enclosure with a beefy 650W PSU like the Sonnet Breakaway 650.

eGPU Setup 1.35    •    eGPU Port Bandwidth Reference Table

15" Dell Precision 7510 (Q M1000M) (6th,4C,H) + GTX 1080 Ti @ 32Gbps-M2 (ADT-Link R43SG) + macOS 10.13.6 & Win10

@jcnz , we now have a more powerful Radeon VII supported in macOS 10.14.5+. The 5700 / 5700XT is yet to be supported.

@itsage does a 4-way shootout of the Radeon VII, GTX 780, RX Vega Nano and R9 Nano in his recent build. The Radeon VII is the performance leader by a healthy margin:
