Hello all,

Had to install Catalina 10.15.1 Dev. Beta 2 to see my RX 5700 XT working under macOS. However, for personal reasons, I don't like it, I'd call it "Crapalina" instead... (it's MY thoughts)

So, you all guessed : As I have a BootCamp/Mojave/Catalina boot, is there any way(s) to get my RX 5700 XT eGpu (Razer Core X) work under latest 10.14.6 ? (So I could get rid of Catalina)

As I'm new to eGpu, please tell me how to make it work if it's possible...

2019 MBP, Core i9 2.3GHz, 16GB RAM...

Thanks all in advance and sorry for my bad English

Eric

@nadstaky Apple probably won't make drivers for the 5700XT for Mojave and you can't copy the drivers from Catalina.

@joevt

Have you tried copying drivers from Catalina to Mojave? Sounds like an interesting experiment to check if those kexts are loadable on Mojave.

@mac_editor I have not tried it, and I don't have a 5700XT to test. Has that ever worked for graphics drivers? Well, the dosdude1 patchers for running later versions of macOS on unsupported Macs does something similar for some kexts and frameworks - copying/patching old kexts or frameworks for newer OSs...

I think it should be considered as a possibility. Perhaps I’ll give it a try once my MBP is back from repair.

Thank all,

I have know nice knowledge in Macs, but still know nothing about drivers .kext 🙁

+ I'm French, I don't understand everything written in English...

If you want me to do stuff with Crapalina HD 5700 XT .kext on 10.14.6, please give me all the steps 😉

Thanks again,

Eric

I was considering upgrading my MM2018/Razer core with a RX 5700 but the lack of driver support under Mojave is a deal breaker for me currently.  I would be extremely interested in seeing if it is possible to have this class of cards working under 10.14, 10.15 & windows.

I'm not averse to a bit of patching to make it function because I can't, and don't particularly want, to move entirely to Catalina at this point, if at all.

I look forward to hearing about any results from experimenting with these drivers.

Thank you!

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Hi all Egpu Gugus,

I'm just like Purplealert... I've removed Catalina from my 2019 MBP. Please HELP US or GIVE US a way to :

- Find what is(are) the name(s) of RX 5700 XT in Catalina 10.15.1b2 (I've still got a bootable backup on an external SSD)

- Tell us where those .kext are stored.

- Then tell us where to copy them in Moajve (and if any modifications are needed)

Then I will tell you if it actually loads fine in Mojave.

THANX IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR PRECIOUS HELP

Hello,

Just as a n00b I've found the .kext driver for the RX 5700 XT in my bootable 10.15.1 beta 2 backup.

Name : AMDRadeonX6000.kext

I've rsync -av it (Terminal, as root) to My 10.14.6 /System/Library/Extensions/

Then :

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions//AMDRadeonX6000.kext

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions//AMDRadeonX6000.kext

sudo kextcache -i /

Then rebooted.

It doesn't work 🙁

You, egpu Gurus, can you help me please ?

That's not enough. Copy all these kexts and bundles and try:

  • AMDRadeonX6000.kext
  • AMDRadeonX6000Framebuffer.kext
  • AMDRadeonX6000GLDriver.bundle
  • AMDRadeonX6000HWServices.kext
  • AMDRadeonX6000MTLDriver.bundle
  • AMDRadeonX6000Shared.bundle
  • AMDSupport.kext
  • AMDFramebuffer.kext

You might also need to copy some other generic AMD kexts/bundles that may have also been updated to accommodate Navi (maybe: AMDShared). Also try without replacing the last two kexts (they already exist in Mojave).

Make a backup of existing kexts you are replacing of course.
