Hello EGPU.io community,

I've got a fresh XG Station 2 with XFX Vega64 and can not make it work.

I see that XG Station 2 is visible in the System Report, but Graphics/Displays show only iGPU and dGPU. The card is powered up and spinning the fan, but not visible in MacOS or Windows. Tried HDMI to external monitor - nothing.

MacOS version - 10.13.2 (17C88)

Are there any ways to troubleshoot that?

Check the GPU to make sure it’s mounted fully. I don’t see the secure screws and no light on the R-cube.

What’s the firmware version on your ASUS ROG XG2?

@itsage, i've tried to launch the firmware tool from ASUS website. Was getting an error that Thunderbolt service is not installed. Followed your recommendation to install the Intel Thunderbolt Software, but tat the end it shows no connected devices (tried both sides of the mac). The tool itself now says no Thunderbolt software is running.

Meanwhile will try a fresh Windows installation to see if something changes.

P.S. Guess thats the FW version: 21.1

Before doing a firmware flash on the eGPU enclosure, check in System Information » Thunderbolt » ASUS ROG XG Station 2 and see the firmware version number in macOS. The one on mine is 25,1 and Vega card works fine.

I have a BestBuy 5 min away, ran there and got RX580 - same story, not detected. So, that must be either XG Station or a MacBook.

Will try to flash 25.1 and post back. Thanks for your help.

New Windows installation detects Vega 64 with Code 12. Working on overcoming it with apple_set_os.efi.

But i can not make ASUS tool to work with XG Station 2, it says Thunderbolt Software is not installed, while it is.

You may need to check if your XG Station is working correctly. Mine with vega 64 works plug and play for both windows and mac  without a single script or manual modifications.

I have 2017 15" MacBook Pro and I found that plugging eGPU to the top right port always worked. Left ports gave me issues.

Yeah. XG Station 2 FW was 21.1 instead of 25.1.

Had to install Thunderbolt Driver for Intel NUC to be able to identify it in Windows through Thunderbolt Software and only then the flasher started to work. In order to use new firmware, i had to reboot both laptop and plug out the eGPU (as advised by ASUS support).

Now i see AMD RX xxx in MacOS.

Hi @chaosmage looks like you have a similar setup to me. I'm using a Sonnet Breakaway instead.

Can I ask if you'd mind doing an OpenCL Benchmark with Blender on your eGPU?

I'm trying to get some macOS OpenCL AMD GFX card Blender 2.7.9 benchmarks with eGPUs.

More info on my thread:

Thank you.
