So, I just tried booting up with my usb stick, disabled all security required, and when I select efi, the screen goes black and I see a piece of code for a split second and then it stays black the entire time. Can't get to the menu to set up..nothing. I'm running on a Imac Pro 18core 128 with Mojave 10.14.1

Please let me know what options I have. My EGPU is a Razer CoreX with a 1080ti card. Thanks in advance.

With my iMac Pro, I never needed anything special to make it work with an eGPU under either Windows or macOS, just plugg it that is it (used with a 1080Ti).

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Couple of questions...

1. I assume the EFI folder can be put in any FAT32 partition/drive? ie on your boot drive or a larger external (will be trying with the latter once my Core arrives).
2. Any need/want for GUI? Something to make it look as elegant as it works and also ownable? Happy to help if so (port of custom eGPU.io rEFInd theme?).
3. It's no real issue, but any idea why when I first booted using this boot manager Windows had to relearn all my peripherals ("setting up device" notifications popped up) including egpu and I had to reinstall drivers?

I'll try and work out the only getting 4K option myself, assume its Intel driver related.

Sorry for the late reply.

1) Possibly but use other partition name than "EFI".
2) GUI is not possible atm because my text-only boot screen code is written from scratch, not based on rEFInd or other projects. However, GUI would be nice if I have time. I might take a look at this: https://github.com/abdyfranco/next-loader
3) The included apple_set_os.efi does something that makes hardware more accessible, enumeration might be different. Or you used another TB port.

Totally missed this...
I'm having a few irregularities with the boot loader, unable to get it working on my main storage drive, not a massive issue, but an odd one. Also finding it sometimes hangs on "saving" and I gave it a good few mins but it didn't progress, also found sometimes the eGPU isn't detected in W10 so have to boot normally and hot plug then on reboot EFI Boot is fine. I've reverted back to my 1070 for now as things feel safer with Nvidia.
Reg GUI - if you need any help on that just ask.
Also, did you remove the automated version?

I can't do it why ?
I can't make it work, I have the usb when I press alt, but when I click it goes to macbook to chose a startup disk... I don't see that interface that you showed me.
I can't install refind too i don't know why. When I had my macbook pro 2016 it was easier. Now I have a 10.14 Mojave MB 2018.

Hope you can help me how to install this on my Macbook Smile

Thanks

@eightarmedpet It's there and was updated a little since you last used it:

https://egpu.io/forums/mac-setup/automate-egpu-efi-egpu-boot-manager-for-macos-and-windows/paged/7/#post-46528

I made a request for this to be linked on the first page but hasn't been done yet.

@antony_marques Ensure Secure Boot is disabled and boot from external media is allowed on your 2018 MBP. Google how to change that if not aware. You can use purge-wrangler.sh alternatively (still secure boot must be disabled).

@antony_marques Secure Boot is different from SIP.

Ok thanks I entered ! But when I plug-in egpu it doesn’t detect it right way.. I know we should type the commands but it’s on the efi ? Because I can’t do nothing there. Tried to login on Mac by the efi usb and it’s frozen. I pressed R and now it has detected the egpu but I can't still type the commands

Not sure what you're trying to do here and what commands you are referring to. Create the EFI disk (name it something other than EFI), select it on boot, and choose macOS. Then plug in eGPU, log out/log in if needed.

You can use this to create EFI disk:

Ok to clarify, I had a old efi that was causing me freezing when loading Mac OS X. I can get in os x at least now.
My question was related to if I should or my egpu when connecting efi or after login mac os x (it wasn't clear in text). But I saw other posts and i know now it's after login in OS X
After all these hours still didn't worked, installed purge but it doesn't have my drivers for mojave, but still tried it anyway nothing happened. I tried the mud settings even if I haven't dedicated egpu. nothing. All I get it's a black screen in my external monitor.
Egpu is working behind but nothing happens. Tried different ways even with apple.set, nothing. Tried connected before boot efi, it says he recognise my egpu but had the same problem black screen too (But only external monitor, internal is great). Got an idea what could I being doing wrong ? @antony_marques Wait for NVIDIA drivers on Mojave or use High Sierra. Old EFI does not support 2018 MBP.
