late 2016 MacBook Pro 15" touch bar, akitio node with gtx 1080, latest drivers from nvidia

So the card shows up in the system report, under Nvidia's driver manager at the top I have it running with goalques script and it says Nvidia web driver, latest cuda firmware, the card shows in my video playback app(redcine-x) but I'm getting zero acceleration. On renders It seems like its not being used and I tried the heaven benchmark and got the same score and fps without booting to the card. Suggestions?

I've noticed other peoples about this Mac page shows their gtx cards on the basic overview screen. Mine does not but does show it if I go to system report -> graphics/displays

I tried redcine-x and resolve, both gave me the option to enable cuda and pick a GPU. Picked the 1080 but in playback and rendering its obvious its not actually using the card. Totally lost what to do. I tried starting the process from the beginning several times with no change. Computer sees the card but doesn't seem to utilize it.

Something I just tried on a whim, since I was getting really frustrated with terrible performance, was to change my primary monitor in macOS to the monitor being driven from the eGPU. Now my Heaven Benchmarks are averaging ~70FPS.

Running late 2016 15" MBP 2.9Ghz, 16GB RAM, 4GB 460. eGPU Akitio Node with Nvidia 1070. Newest drivers that dropped today, 378.05.05.05f02.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

I'm just using it for video rendering/playback not to drive the monitor
