Firstly, I've tried SwitchResX, but it seems to only blank out the internal display, without actually turning it off. Is there a a way to turn it off? Disable Monitor turns off my external monitor as well as the internal?

I'm thinking this is why I see no benefit in 3D applications, from the external card.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

10.13.4 Public Beta works perfectly now in clamshell mode on my 15" Macbook pro touch as well. Internal display no longer shows up in displays when in clamshell mode and the external display I want as primary is remembered. Had been using SwitchResX but even then the internal still showed up in displays when disabled, now that seems all settled in the new beta so I can get rid of SwitchResX and I was close to the end of the 10 day trial and almost ready to pay for it.

Performance is another issue. I have been running some benchmarks comparing internal Radeon 460 to external RX 580 and so far the results are mixed.
