am using purge-wrangler and am wondering how safe is Clean My Mac X to use with egpu? and what should i not do when doing a smc reset nvram, pram reset. The reason why im asking this is because yesterday when i did all these things i couldn't get past the booting loading screen and i had to reinstall my operation software again, am not sure what caused this but i like to prevent it in the future.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@rudolphez, NVRAM reset re-enables SIP which prevents boot if your system is patched. To fix, simply re-disable SIP. Otherwise nothing else should interfere. Read the script's wiki page.

@mac_editor,  Wait i was able to start up fine without disabling my sip ?? is it required to always be disabled ?

@rudolphez, I suggest to keep it always disabled because it ensures consistent boots. It is possible to start with SIP enabled in some circumstances (such as rebuilt kext cache).

IS this still true with latest Big Sur and compatible cards.. where we won't need the hacks? like purge-wrangler? - or do we still need to use them for some reason?

Would be nice to have a handy chart where it shows common use cases and which patches are needed along with where to connect monitors.. in both normal and clamshell modes.. etc..

I have never really understood those use cases.. I do 3d rendering mostly with some Davinci Resolve.. my laptop is in clameshell mode like 90 % of the time.

Any thoughts?

Ill make a new thread perhaps...
