Dear all,

I am new to the forum, but sincerely hope you can help. I need help, as I am getting quite desperate. I am running this setting (see here on google drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1thG3pMqXK6wzolGFYqMFiNw_qkizCu6I?usp=sharing) on an egpu. When using the 4k screen directly to the Mac, it keeps flickering on and off every minute or so after a while. I suspect the internal graphic card cannot handle the screen. That is obviously why purchased the egpu (razor). I tried different cables and installing a new OS. Sometimes it just turns black, other times, I can still see and use the cursor, but the screen has a completely black background. When I connect the screen directly to the egpu this flickering does not happen ever. Problem is, the screen is then very contrast less, dull. It almost seems it is not picking up the driver or so. I made images and put them in the google drive listed above.

AMD and Apple don't understand the issue.

Can you please, please, please help me? It is driving me nuts.

Thanks!!!

Eli

@eli-dijkers, What is the model of the graphics card and monitor? The photos look like the eGPU is currently set to use HDR settings which looks washed out for many monitors in macOS. Go to System Preferences > Displays and uncheck the box for HDR settings.

@itsage, Thanks for getting back to me so soon!!

The monitor is: BenQ SW320 Display

The graphic card is: Radeon RX Vega 64 8 GB.

I cannot see the HDR function. I switched back to the latest version of Catalina as I read there are more issues with egpu support in big sur.

Thanks!

Eli

@eli-dijkers, That's a very nice monitor with HDR. Are you using a DisplayPort cable?

Thanks! Yes it is lovely when it works 😉

I tried both displayport - displayport and HDMI to HDMI. Result is the same.
