So now to get CUDA working. I installed what I think is the corresponding CUDA version 7.5.27 which needed driver 7.5.29 according to nvidia which i installed.

Screen Shot 2018 04 08 at 20.29.26

CUDA-Z crashes though and I get the following output from deviceQuery sampleapp

/deviceQuery Starting...

CUDA Device Query (Runtime API) version (CUDART static linking)

cudaGetDeviceCount returned 35

-> CUDA driver version is insufficient for CUDA runtime version

Result = FAIL

Any ideas?

You need at least 10.12.4 with 10-series cards. Can be any later build. Recent builds are often the most stable.
