Currently have an iMac 2017 27" and a Macbook pro 15". Which should I use the eGPU for? I'm looking to increase my performance when editing 4k videos.
here are my iMac specs: (iMac 5k, 27-inch, 2017), 3.4 GHz quad-core intel core i5, 40gb 2400 mhz DDR4, graphics card: Radeo Pro 570 4gb
here are my macbook pro: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) // 2.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 // 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 // Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
Here's an example of a set up that seemed to be working:
eGPU hardware
Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX 5700 XT 8GB GDDR6
Apple TB3 to TB2 adapter
Apple Thunderbolt 2 cable
Installation steps
Back up computer
Disable system integrity protection
Run PurgeWrangler and enable AMD GPUs only. No ti82 support or legacy kext needed.
Install GPU in enclosure
Connect eGPU to Macbook Pro via Thunderbolt
Connect eGPU to external monitor via DisplayPort
Reboot computer and eGPU is ready to go. No issues whatsoever.
To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
