I’ve been using an LG UltraFine 5k w/ my 2018 MacBook Pro 13” for a long while — it’s working great. But I’m starting to get the itch for triple monitors. I’m not a gamer, it’s all “Productivity” work.

My idea was to purchase an eGPU enclosure & AMD GPU, and use that to drive the two additional displays. I would leave the LG UltraFine 5k on the internal GPU.

Would this work?

Summary:

- External GPU, driving two DisplayPort connected displays, connected on Port 1

- Internal GPU, driving the LG UltraFine 5k, connected on Port 2

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Yep, and quite a nice solution.

There is a really nice looking LG 4K display coming out soon which has a 144 hz refresh rate, which makes everything feel nicer, productivity and gaming.

Depending on which gen 5K you have (first gen or second) you may be able to connect it directly to the eGPU anyway (if second gen).

Another option to consider is the LG 5K2K ultra wide, fantastic monitor. But I can understand the need to get 2 additional monitors. But yes, your proposed setup will work just fine.
