eGPU for late 2012 27" iMac
Now my real questions are :
- Will I need to buy a power supply in addition?
- And are the Akitio Thunder, the graphic card, the thunderbolt adaptor and maybe the power supply the only things I will need?
Will I need to buy a power supply in addition?
If you don't wanna do some DIY, I recommend you to buy Akitio Node.
It has much power to use GTX 1060.
And are the Akitio Thunder, the graphic card, the thunderbolt adaptor and maybe the power supply the only things I will need?
EGPU can't drive internal screen on your iMac, so you should buy external monitor to use GPU for the games, or some graphical Application(CUDA will be able to use without external monitor, maybe).
@johnjack, I think there seems to be some ways to use the internal display nowadays. Did you upgrade your macos system to Catalina or Mojave? Were the eGPU still able to work?
27 iMac 2012 displays directly from dGPU.
In order to drive internal display, should enable iGPU.
If optimus has enabled, maybe it able to work.
But, performance drop is significantly on TB1 driving internal display.
There is no reason to try it.
I changed full of my environment, so I can't test anymore.
If you want to use Nvidia Graphics, there is no solusions on current macOS.
