Having trouble getting my eGPU to work Mac
Hey guys, please help!
So I have a 2017 Mac desktop computer. I have my OS is Big Sur and is up to date.
I just bought the Razer X eGPU and put in a RX 580 graphics card in the eGPU which I've been told is compatible with Mac.
Whenever I plug it in an icon appears at the top right corner of my screen but when I click on it, it says "No Removable GPU" and then disappears.
The eGPU is not appearing in the activity monitor, however it appears as "Display" when I go into About this Mac > System Report > Graphics/Displays as an External GPU Bus: PCIe.
Can someone please help me get the eGPU working?
@nathaniel_gerdes, What is the brand and model of the RX 580? Did you buy the card new? There are some GPUs with firmware/vBIOS that are not macOS compatible. Used cards can likely run on modified vBIOS.
@itsage, I'm suspecting user instal error...
@nathaniel_gerdes are you able to take some pics of how the GPU is installed?

@eightarmedpet, here’s a Dropbox link to a couple extra photos
It’s my roommates old card. It’s a xfx radeon rx 580
@nathaniel_gerdes, XFX firmware is the culprit. You may need your roommate's help with vBIOS flashing in order to make the card compatible with macOS. Check the VRAM brand then look for a vBIOS from another brand with matching VRAM.
