Hdmi audio inserter causes a kernel panic

Hi everyone,

My eGPU is running just fine on both MacOS and Windows using Bootcamp when I connect my tv to the gpu via hdmi. However, I recently bought a hdmi audio inserter to insert the SPDIF signal from my external sound card into the hdmi signal. The moment I connect the inserter to the gpu via hdmi, I get a kernel panic on MacOS. On windows everything works just fine, even with the audio inserter connected.

This is the audio inserter I'm using: https://www.techly.com/hdmi-4k2k-audio-inserter.html
It's not from that exact brand but there seem to be several different brands selling the same device online.

Here's the kernel panic:

Now I don't think the drivers are the only problem here, because I connected the inserter via a regular hdmi - usb c / thunderbolt adapter and the display was rather glitchy. But everything is fine on bootcamp so I'm thinking there might be a solution somewhere.

Has anyone experienced any similar problems? Not necessarily with an audio inserter like this, but perhaps some other hdmi enabled device?

My current setup:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
Razer Core X
ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB
