Unless I've missed something you are not going to be able to run the 1650 in any version of macOS, best stick to AMD.

I actually have a spare RX 560 I'd be happy to sell for cheap if of interest, although you'd prob do better getting a 570 locally as I'm UK based.

@marc_kellerman - This should work.

Want to output 4K@60Hz out of an old system on the cheap? Read here.
Give your Node Pro a second Thunderbolt3 controller for reliable peripherals by re-using a TB3 dock (~50$).

Awesome! and is the 560 the best card this thing will handle?

(I realize how much of a pain in the <beep> I am) 😉

@marc_kellerman

Its not recommend, but I use mine in a Node Lite with the standard power supply, also did the same with a 1050, and heard people doing it with 1050ti's.

I have no experience with your model of MacBook but full of thumb is Nvidia cards are usually easier to set up in Bootcamp (Windows), so if you are ONLY using the card in Windows a 1050ti or 1650 may be a better choice, if you are using the eGPU in macOS then the 560 is currently your best option. The 1050ti is a lot more powerful than a 560, but that makes no difference if you cant actually use a 1050ti (macOS).

Personally I like the mini eGPU solution but have since given it up in the chase for more and more power.

I made this little chart of the games I play which might give you an idea of expectations...

edit: Would also recommend getting a Node Lite as its TB3 rather than TB2 and some day you'll upgrade that laptop...

I ordered the 560 and the power adapter... I'll give an update once it's setup!

Thanks @Marc Kellerman for your insights. Planing on building the same setup for my MPB 2015

What exact type of AMD RX 560 did you use with how much GB?

At TechPower Up, I found this info for the RX 560:

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-560.c2940

But there only seem to be cards with two fans.

In Germany, I found and ITX version of the AMD Radeon 560 with one single fan:

https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/product/_msi-radeon-rx-560-aero-itx-4g-oc-v809-2467r-2275850.html?rbtc=bis%7csha%7cpla-4576579716163896%7c%7cp%7cPLA%20-%20Manufacturer%7c&msclkid=2516e371fa5010c2a012bdedef9724fc&gclid=COnbxNyS9OgCFQ6XGwodopAG7g&gclsrc=ds

Would this one fit without any problem?

If not, what graphics card can fit in there, not replacing anything (except the power brick) for power usage?

Thank you in advance!

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
