I just got myself a AMD RX 580 and a Thunderbolt 3 ATIKIO Enclosure.  I have High Sierra loaded.

Is this plug and play or do I need to do anything to get a picture?  I assume I will need some sort of AMD drivers?  Where can I get them?

Well, I realize I need an external display.

So it is indeed just plug and play then?  Where would I get the drivers if needed.

Thank you!

It will be plug and play except for Macs which have discrete NVIDIA graphics.

Mac mini is fine , it does not have an "extra" onboard GPU form Nivdia or AMD, your egpu setup will work right out of the box without any trouble !

Got High Sierra working with no issues on AMD Radeon RX 580.

Do I need to install any drivers on top of the Mac Provided?

There is nowhere here on the forum a clear manual or instruction in how to get High Sierra and a egpu with Lg 5k monitor to function. Help is really appreciated by me too.

Hi,

My setup: Akition node 3, MB PRO 13 touch, AMD RX 580 and High Sierra installed

Just tested , and everything works fine in Mac OS High Sierra to activate INTERNAL DISPLAY with eGPU.

Very simple, just follow steps, everything you need to have is similar to this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EK05WTY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ep_dp_waaHybY4WHF7X

Then follow steps to activate Internal Display in Mac OS High Sierra (10.13)

macOS eGPU-Accelerated Internal Display How-to:

  1. Download and run Spectacle
  2. Download and run DisableMonitor
  3. Go to macOS System Preferences -> Dock -> Position on screen -> Left (if you arrange your ghost display to the right of the internal display)
  4. Plug the ghost display adapter in and set it as the primary display ( to make it primary: go to preferences of display and drag and drop menu bar in 2 icons of display)
  5. Set the resolution to match internal screen in DisableMonitor*
  6. Launch an app such as Valley benchmark from the Dock (there you see its child window)
  7. Switch “Next Display” or “Previous Display” with a keyboard shortcut (CONTROL OPTION COMMAND LEFT or RIGHT ARROW).

* Spectacle switches apps between displays in both Windowed and Fullscreen mode. Matching the ghost display’s resolution with the internal display using DisableMonitor is therefore recommended.
