Hi there Rastafabi.

I have here a 2015 mbp iGPU only, running macos 10.12.6 and a TB3 aorus eGPU with a 1080 card.

The macbook is connected via tb2/tb3 to the enclosure, which is connected to my monitor via displayport. The external monitor is the main display. I have downloaded both most up to date nvidia webdrivers and cuda drivers.

Everything seems to check in my opinion, right? The GPU is recognized my the system but it seems my softwares are having a hard time doing the same.

Photoshop wont give me the option to choose the eGPU and League of Legends runs between 20-40 fps!!!

Is there a sure way to check whether the eGPU is really “active” and accelerating as it should?

And secondly, is there a way to force everything to run with the eGPU, like a gfxcardstatus would? or maybe like a regular nvidia windows driver where I could specifically choose an app to run accelerated?

It seems my apps are still seeing the iGPU for some reason..I am so sad right now ;(

ps. I tried goalques first, then uninstalled it and tried yours. Results were the same.

MacOS: 15" Retina Macbook Pro 2015 Iris Pro only
Windows 10: Tornado F5 laptop with discrete GTX 1060
eGPU: GIGABYTE RX 580

Hi

Total Noob here hoping for some help to get this working.

I have a trash can MacPro running 10.11.5. Bought the Akitio Node and a 1080Ti (MSI Duke) with Apples Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter.
Followed Rastafabi's instructions, disabled SIP, installed Nvidia drivers and Cuda ones. All good to this point, but then when restarting with the Node on, the mac won't boot up. Turn Node off and the mac does boot up.
I don't need the Node to support a monitor. Just want the GPU for 3D Rendering (Redshift)

Can anyone help me get this working - this is all very new to me.

Thanks!

2 x Akitio Node + 2 x 1080Ti + TB2>TB3 + 2013 Mac Pro Trashcan

thanks for work around
and the advise I got from someone-else so I stayed in Sierra just for now.

I got my 1080 Gaming box today,
and made it work both in windows and Sierra easily,

but Not sure if I have to do something more
can any one show your unigine valley benchmark with 1080 gamingbox + external display in Mac or windows?

I think I kind of got the score I saw someone video with gaming box 1070..

In windows the CUDA-Z Host to Device is 22xx , but under mac os is 16xx
and under windows occasional usb mouse and keyboard lag

I did not have issue detecting in windows, without disable some other PCIE,
and do not active iGPU and remove dGPU and so on, just follow the package here

HI! back here again~~

May I ask is it that I “must” disable dGPU and activate iGPU to get near full benefit of my gaming box 1080??
currently I did not disable any port yet on my macbook pro 2016 15″ pro 460, But mine gaming box is working both under MAC(10.12.6) and Bootcamp(win10) and both with external monitor.

but I use Unigine Valley for benchmark on ultra, and get a only near 1070 gaming box score, 3477.
less than a youtuber testing 1070 gaming box (he got 3570, though not with macbook pro).
and 2832 on MACOS.

Hi folks!

thanks for all the effort people put here. reading through these posts, (this one especially  https://egpu.io/forums/builds/macbook-air-11-inch-mid-2012-gigabyte-aorus-gtx-1070-gaming-box/ ) made me get my confident enough to buy my own egpu - aorous 1070. just as in the pinned post, i am running macbook air 2012, with 1x thunderbolt 1. i am using apple's official thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt adapter with 0.5m apple thunderbolt cable.

to make long story short, no luck here. i did stick to sierra but my egpu is not utilised at all although it is detected. changing the main display doesn't help either. i had it running at one occasion in uniengine heaven benchamrk test and it did great. that s the only time he fans turned on. after i rebooted it wouldnt work anymore. no clue why. i am doing a clean install of 10.12.6 sierra to see if that helps. if there is anything else i could try, id be eager to find out 😉

thanks heaps and keep on the great work!

hi everyone,
just to let you know, i was experimenting with NVIDIAegpuSupport for high sierra (13.2) with no luck
So I did clean install of 12.6 Sierra, installed Nvidia drivers and rastafabi's tool and all seems to work fine now.
Anyone else in the same boat here? I read it might have something to do with thunderbolt 3 - thunderbolt conversion which is not exactly supported on High Sierra? I might be misinterpreting the facts, but have no reasonable explenation.
anyways, thanks heaps for your work @Rastafabi and egpu Smile

hey!
after installing Security Update 2018-001-10.12.6 with safari 11.0.3 im getting a kernel panic loop on startup.
i read that this is probably because apple modified kernel and whatever had to do anything with it is now causing it to crash.. which would be the case with egpu enabler too, right?

anyone experiencing similar issues? any fixes besides reinstalling OS or doing a time machine recovery?

here's the source i was talking about:

https://www.jamf.com/jamf-nation/discussions/26832/2018-001-safari-update-causing-crashes-on-10-12-6

cheers

I don't know if it is due to this

But I experienced the same issue,
and glad that I have Time Machine and rolled back to the point before update.

I'd read the same forum some days ago.
and the method to ignore the update in the article does not work for me..
so now I have to select "remind me tomorrow" everyday.
