Mac showing "No removable GPU" when eGPU is plugged in
So today, I received my eGPU and I was super excited to give it a go.
I went with a Razer Core X Thunderbolt 3 and a Sapphire Vega 64, this one precisely (More about the rest of the setup at the end of the post)
So I put it together, I plug it in and... the Vega 64 fans start spinning, the little GPU icon shows up but when I click on it, it shows "No removable GPU"...
Also, I tried to hook it up to a screen (eGPU to screen) but it looked like the screen was not getting any signal.
However, when I unplug the cable it says I unsafely removed the GPU and sometimes the mac freezes.
I've done some research and I haven't found someone else with that problem so if anyone out there could help me it would be awesome
Here's the full setup:
- Razer Core X Thunderbolt 3
- Sapphire Vega 64, this one precisely
- Mid-2014 Macbook Pro 13" on Mojave 10.14.2 and an Intel Iris 1536 MB
- Official Apple TB3 to TB2 plugged to the eGPU
- TB2 to TB2 cable from Cable Matters, this one (they didn't have the official one in stock)
Let me know if you need more info
Native eGPU support in macOS is for Thunderbolt 3 Macs only. Your 2014 MacBook Pro 13" is Thunderbolt 2 and would need community eGPU support. The most straight-forward solution is Purge-Wrangler script.
Hi same problem here: No removable GPU
A Mac book pro 2017 with TB3
AMD rx 580 8 gb
Tried on Catalina and it would not recognised the Egpu, then on big sur and it recognised the Akitio node but not the graphic cards .
Any help will be great , this drive me mad.
