10.15.6 did not resolve my kernel panics/crashing. It's totally random too.

Just found on google, it's common:

https://egpu.io/forums/mac-setup/state-of-egpu-for-macs-catalina-10-15-update/paged/2/#post-66450

If your Mac mini still won't boot, try the solutions in this post.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

I have a Mac mini (late 2014) with Sonnett RX560 egpu puck.  It suffers with random freezes and hard crashes with anything newer than 10.15.4.

Same here. MacMini 2018/2020 (6-core) crashing randomly with external Radeon RX 5700XT.

Never had discord installed, tried clean install (eGPU disconnected), Combo Update, SMC Reset, Apple Diagnostics…

MacBook Pro 13" (2018) works perfectly with the same eGPU…

@rafk06, I was having the same issues, and I saw you removed Discord, and everything worked. I read this and thought this had to be 100% coincidental, and that there's no way this could be the issue. It definitely was. I haven't had 1 kernel panic after sleep or reboot after uninstalling Discord (and deleting all supplemental files of course).

Thanks so much! While I rarely use Discord on my Mac, I might report this to their support team, and see if anyone else has also had this issue.

PS. I made an eGPU.io account to write this reply 😂

@justin_lomiglio, Right it seems like a very random thing to cause it!

After many attempts and tests: In my case it was a defective logic board. Apple replaced it and now everything works.

If I only had thought about a "simple" hardware defect earlier…

I can also confirm, that after uninstalling (deleting) Discord, my Sonnet eGPU 5700 on Mac Mini (2018, macOS Big Sur) does not crash anymore.
