Hi, I was in search of figuring out why my Mac Mini 2018 will restart or cold boot OSX to a black screen 50% the time (Mac to eGPU to monitor), but this post caught my eye because I have been using the TB3 closest to the HDMI for a couple months now. Besides my black screen issue, it seems to be working just fine in OSX and Bootcamp Windows, but could you please explain to me why the TB3 closest to ethernet is better to use?

I guess I'm now trying to figure out if using one side of TB3 ports is preferred (performance-wise) over the other. I assumed the 2 TB3 controllers for 4 ports meant an equal distribution, so it didn't matter. But I'm probably missing something, so it's probably a more complicated answer where which TB3 port to use may depend on what and how you're trying to boot. Or things can be so finicky, if something works outside of norm, just stick to it. Just trying to make sure we all have things setup as best as we can, thank you.
Hello. The requirement for plugging into the port closest to the Ethernet has to do with the two sets of pcie controllers. I don’t know the complicated bits, but the gist of it is that there’s more resources allocated to the pair of TB3s closer to the Ethernet port. The main reason for plugging into the closest port to Ethernet is to avoid Error 12 in windows which occurs very often for AMD cards. Which port you ultimately use will depend on your card and setup. Can @itsage confirm this?
