@craftsman, thanks for the response! But while the GPU performance is unchanged, there could be other things hiding in the driver. Like stability improvements. I would assume if the GPU driver gets a new number some tweaks were made.

Yes, that's what I said. Geekbench Metal compute score is very improved and so is video acceleration. Big Sur and the newest version of Premiere are really great on the 5700 XT.

@craftsman, I don't think I wrote my response well enough. My initial point was: IF you can track the version number of the GPU drivers you can track changes.

A driver with a new number, but no corresponding performance or feature improvement, would still hint at some maintenance under the hood.

I'm very glad there are people like you that continuously benchmark though. It's worth a hell of a lot!

I believe the only thing you can track is the creation/modification date stamp on the kext and the IDs inside. Apple doesn't document the changes to the drivers and versions.

@mac_editor I removed a third volume partition that I stored automate-eGPU EFI and not sure how to get that back on macOS 11. The [+] button in Disk Utility > Partition is grayed out.

@itsage, Right-click SSD device > Partition... should work. +/- is only for APFS containers now I think.

Nevermind, misread what you meant. Can probably do it via command line.

Alright, figured it out. Click on the APFS container, not the SSD device, then Partition, and + should be there.

@mac_editor, Thank you for looking into this. I should have worded it as partition rather than volume because creating another volume within the APFS container would not allow me to change the format to FAT. I tried per your instructions but my Disk Utility Partition window is still not allowing [+]. Maybe I need to disable some protection?

@itsage, I am testing on a Mac with all protections enabled. I'll add screenshots.

Could you also share yours - maybe has something to do with disk layout.

@mac_editor, I think my disk layout is jacked up from all the different testings. I have a Boot Camp partition as well as a 574MB partition that's seemingly stuck.

@itsage, not kidding, but I lost the ability to add a partition somehow!

Disk Utility is terrible man. Just use the CLI to create your volume. First figure out what that little volume is:

diskutil list

Then erase it if necessary. Then resize your apfs volume container to make some free space:

diskutil apfs resizeContainer ...

Finally add volume:

diskutil addVolume ...

These are not full commands, you can probably figure those out by just diskutil documentation when you execute the incomplete command - it'll tell you what's needed. Also for reference:

https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/372262/this-container-can-t-be-split-because-the-resulting-containers-would-be-too-sma

Seems deleting all Time machine snapshots also helps.

Horrible rollout with this update. People are unable to download. Seems like the servers are denying access.
