We don’t need desktop computers anymore. 3681 more frames. With the same settings, Mid 2015 15" MBP M370X can achieve only 21 FPS on average.

Macs are back in the game.

Metal on macOS is now very near the performance level of DX11 on Windows.

EDIT:
Metal + RX 480 couldn’t reach over 60 FPS at any point due to the lack of VSYNC OFF setting. In Windows, it was OFF. Meaning that Metal’s average 55 FPS on macOS is indeed superb result compared to DX11 (average 50,1/52,6 average FPS on Windows – RX 480/GTX 980).

Here's the result from Windows 10 with same configuration:

However, in some areas of Geekbench 4, M370X dGPU is still better, and these calculations may depend on how fast the GPU can read/write data.

M370X:

RX 480:

GTX 980:

The Node firmware upgrade is still on hold. Will be interesting what numbers and graphs we get after upgrade.

That's awesome! Is this running on 10.12.4? Can you share with us the instructions to get AMD GPUs going in 10.12.4?

I would say that, we would need to compare to DirectX 12... the low level version of DirectX 11, no ?

MBP 2018, Touch Bar, i7 2.6 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1T SSD, Radeon 560X... very nice!

Keep in mind that games born with DirectX in mind, you always lost some performance.

I suppose yes, obviously.

If I am not mistaken, I understand here that the 980 driver is made by Apple, hence has Metal API available ?

Yes, seeing that F1 2016 is programmed for DX11 initially, Mac/Metal port was very effectively done. GTX 980 didn’t work. It showed black screen.

Nvidia makes the web drivers, not Apple.

Then something is wrong in the initial post, it seems to me that the 980 section don't the right legend, not Metal

and yes I understood that nvidia card never had metal api available...
