MM 2018 + Razer Core X + Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 8Gb beahavior during sleep
I think all is working fine and smooth. Did some geekbench and unigine valley test and I got very nice results.
What I want to ask is about MM and eGPU during sleep. When I put my mini to sleep my external disk also go to sleep. But the eGPU seems to working. I can hear some noise from it (feel like a small fan working at lower spin speed).
Is that ok? Does the Razer stay in working condition also during MM sleep? Can someone be able to tell how much is the eGPU power drain during this 'non working' time?
Razer's stock PSU (and also replaced PSU in my setup) seem to stay idle when connected with Thunderbolt 3 cable to a computer which is in sleep. This unfortunately means that PSU consumes noticeable amount of power all the time (for Corsair SF600 around 7-8 watts per hour). If computer is turned off (which never happens in 2020) then PSU goes to stand-by which consumes less than 0,1 watts per hour.
I'd be very interested to hear if this behaviour is related to Razer's solution or if this is universal feature for all eGPUs.
Also, I think this "always-on" behaviour was main reason why I decided to replace stock PSU (to Corsair SF600) and stock case fan (to Noctua NF-S12A). Razer now stays silent when idle and/or low-to-medium usage because of passive fanless-mode of SF600 and ultra-low noise case fan.
I have a very similar setup, except I am using a MBP 13 2020. When I put the MBP to sleep, I find that the EGPU powers down, this is evident by the light (turned off) on the RX580 and the 120mm fan (stops). I am using the SF750 and a Chromax NF-S12A.
Hi. Also my razer power down but it doesn't go to a 0W consumption but in an idle state.
After connecting the power meter I have a consumption of 13.5W by the Razer Core X in idle state.
Maybe changing PSU will drop it to 7W but the SF600 is around 144 euro...
