Hello---

Seeking local paid help if possible.

I have a 2018 Mac mini connected to two Samsung monitors using USB C. I do a lot of video editing and I read that eGPU would help a lot with rendering.

Bought Razer Chroma X + AMD RX 6900 XT which  Apple said is compatible for my set up. Connected them. No eGPU showing up, Razer shows up but eGPU, nope. Running the lousy built in GPU card with no option to change it.

Read up on it here and other places - bought USBC-Display Port wire to connect the monitors directly to Chroma X. Ensured that I did not have disk security turned on. EVery time I try to start up, displays do not come on.

Figured maybe I had a bad card or that 6900XT is a bit over powered - I did have to attach a power adapter as its 24 wires not 16 for power but it started up just fine so it seemed weird. I decided to buy a XT6800 which is 16 wires and try that as a test. The XT6800 won't even power on. The Chroma X powers on, but not the card, and displays stay black. I have tried hooking the display up directly to the Mini via HDMI AND via USB-DP to the Chroma. That got the monitor working, BUT still no eGPU and USB-DP connection shows no power.

I'm at my wits end and ready to return all of these damn things and just give up unless someone can help me? I think in person would be the best, and I'll pay $$$ if you get my system running with the eGPU. I am in Washington DC.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@jane_jonas, Sorry to hear. One simple adjustment you can try is turning off File Vault in MacOS System Preferences, followed by re-starting your Mac Mini
