MBP's USB-C -> Dell HDMI. It should be eGPU HDMI -> Dell HDMI.

Thank you so much! I finally understand now (been connecting the monitor directly to my mac). Will try to purchase a HDMI-HDMI cable asap. Cheers

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
