Patched Sur + Kryptonite?

Heya eGPUers,

My Mac Mini 2012 has arrived and I plan to hook it up to my RX480 with Kryptonite. After a RAM upgrade and a HDD->SSD swap it is currently running 10.15.7 (latest Catalina), and I was considering using Patched Sur which seems to be relatively painless for this variety of Mac Mini.

The question is whether an eGPU would work with such a setup, or would Kryptonite and Patched Sur run over each other and explode into flames?

Has anyone tried it before? I couldn't see a build with a TB1 Mac and Big Sur in the Builds table, so if I need to be the guinea pig I am willing to do it, I'll just take a time machine backup of the system and go for it.

Any suggestions here?

Give your Node Pro a second Thunderbolt3 controller for reliable peripherals by re-using a TB3 dock (~50$).

Not a good idea to mix on-disk patching mechanisms vs. EFI. If you want to try, I’d recommend OCLP + Kryptonite. You might need further configuration changes to get it to work (see successful case in above link).

@mac_editor - Yeah, figures. I'll look into OCLP, but probably wait with it a bit since Catalina is going to be supported for a while still. That will give OCLP more maturity time too. Thank you for your work and input! I'll report on my Kryptonite success story in the appropriate thread.
